Market Forces Driving Observability Demand in Indonesia

    From Monitoring to True Observability

Many Indonesian teams still rely on basic dashboards that flag known failures. Modern cloud-native systems fail in unpredictable ways, and employers need engineers who can investigate the unknown.

OBSF teaches the three pillars and observability practice

    Cloud-Native Complexity at Scale

GoTo-scale platforms run thousands of microservices on AWS and Google Cloud. Understanding request flows across distributed services demands observability skills that few engineers hold.

OBSF builds distributed tracing and telemetry skills

    Reliability Pressure in Digital Banking

Indonesia's digital banks and fintechs must meet strict uptime and compliance expectations. Service-level objectives and error budgets are now core to how these platforms stay reliable.

OBSF builds SLI, SLO and error-budget capability

    Scarce Observability Talent

Indonesia has a deep pool of developers but far fewer engineers fluent in observability. A recognised foundation credential makes holders visible to employers competing for scarce skills.

OBSF makes certified reliability engineers stand out

    Costly Incidents and Alert Fatigue

Downtime is expensive for high-traffic marketplaces and payment platforms. Noisy, symptom-based alerting slows response, so employers value engineers who can design smarter alerts.

OBSF teaches modern alerting and incident response

    OpenTelemetry and Tooling Fragmentation

Teams juggle Prometheus, Grafana, Jaeger and commercial platforms. OpenTelemetry is now the standard for vendor-neutral telemetry, and employers want engineers who understand it.

OBSF grounds you in vendor-neutral instrumentation

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute that validates a foundational understanding of observability in modern IT systems. It covers the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, observability tooling and organisational practice.

The course suits DevOps engineers, site reliability engineers, platform engineers, developers and IT operations staff who want a recognised grounding in observability. It also helps technical leads and managers overseeing reliability and monitoring decisions across cloud-native systems.

Yes. Observability is one of Indonesia's fastest-growing engineering skills, with strong demand from GoTo-scale platforms, digital banks and marketplaces. DevOps and SRE roles command salaries from around Rp300M a year and rise sharply with seniority, and a recognised credential helps you stand out.

The credential is awarded by the DevOps Institute, a globally recognised professional body for DevOps, SRE and observability certifications. The exam is delivered in partnership with PeopleCert. Invensis Learning is a DevOps Institute Authorized Training Provider.

Observability Foundation is valid for three years. You renew it by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within the three-year cycle.

    Exam

What is the format of the OBSF exam?

The Observability Foundation exam is an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice paper based on the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge). It is delivered online with proctoring via PeopleCert OnVUE or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and lasts 60 minutes (one hour). It is open book, so the focus is on understanding observability concepts rather than memorisation.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

You need 65% to pass, which is 26 out of 40 questions answered correctly. Our practice questions and mock exams are mapped to the blueprint to help you reach that mark with confidence.

Are there any prerequisites for the OBSF exam?

No. Observability Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, which makes it a strong entry point into modern reliability practice.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

Our trainers provide first-attempt guidance, mock exams and revision support to prepare you thoroughly. If a resit is needed, DevOps Institute retake policy and fees apply. Ask our team about the retake options included with your package.

    Course Content

What topics does the Observability Foundation course cover?

The course covers six modules: observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and observability in SRE and AIOps, with exam preparation.

What are the three pillars of observability?

The three pillars are metrics (quantitative measures of behaviour over time), logs (timestamped records of discrete events) and traces (end-to-end records of a request across distributed services). Together they let you understand system behaviour and diagnose novel failures.

Do I need prior DevOps experience to take this course?

No prior experience is required. The course starts from fundamentals and builds up, so beginners and experienced engineers both benefit. Some exposure to DevOps, cloud or IT operations helps you get the most from the practical examples.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive DevOps Institute-aligned courseware, case studies drawn from cloud-native and DevOps scenarios, practice questions and mock exams. These resources reinforce each module and help you identify and close gaps before the exam.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest OBSF blueprint?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge published by the DevOps Institute, so what you study matches what the exam assesses.

How do I enrol in the Observability Foundation course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you would like help choosing a batch.
