How long is the OBSF certification valid?

The Observability Foundation certification is valid for three years. It is renewed by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within the three-year cycle.

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The OBSF exam is an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice examination based on the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge). It is delivered online with proctoring via PeopleCert or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the OBSF exam and how long is it?

The Observability Foundation exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and a duration of 60 minutes (one hour). It is an open-book exam with single-answer questions.

What is the passing score for the OBSF exam?

The passing score is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Our mock exams and practice questions help you build broad readiness across all six modules.

Are there prerequisites to sit the OBSF exam?

No. The Observability Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, so beginners in the field can take the course with confidence.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

If you do not pass, you can prepare further and resit the exam; verify the current resit policy with the DevOps Institute. Our practice questions, mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to support a confident first attempt. Selected plans include retake support.

Can a beginner take the Observability Foundation course?

Yes. The course is designed at a foundational level and needs no formal prerequisites. It builds concepts from the ground up, so beginners and experienced practitioners alike can follow along, supported by trainer guidance and practical examples.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 40-question, 60-minute open-book format, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness before test day.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest OBSF blueprint?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge) published by the DevOps Institute, covering the three pillars, OpenTelemetry, SLIs, SLOs and organisational observability practices.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate. On passing the OBSF exam, you also receive an official DevOps Institute digital certificate and badge, valid for three years.
