Why Observability Skills Are in Demand in Rwanda

    Digital Services Scaling Fast

Rwanda's banks, fintechs and government platforms are scaling under Vision 2050, and more digital services mean more distributed systems that must stay reliable and observable.

    OBSF builds three-pillar observability skills

    Mobile Money at National Scale

With MTN past 8.1 million subscribers and about 85% digital financial inclusion, mobile money outages hit millions, so employers need engineers who can define SLOs and prevent downtime.

OBSF builds SLO and reliability skills

    From Monitoring to Observability

Many teams still rely on traditional monitoring that flags known problems but cannot explain novel failures, the exact gap that observability practice is built to close.

    OBSF closes the monitoring gap

    Scarce Specialised Reliability Talent

Rwanda has a growing developer base but few specialists in observability and SRE, so a recognised credential makes certified engineers rare and sought-after.

OBSF makes certified engineers stand out

    Cloud-Native and Microservices Adoption

As organisations move to cloud-native and microservices architectures, distributed tracing and OpenTelemetry instrumentation become essential to understand system behaviour.

OBSF builds OpenTelemetry and tracing skills

    Rising Cost of Downtime

As digital services carry more of Rwanda's economy, every outage costs revenue and trust, pushing employers to hire engineers who can shorten detection and incident response.

Observability is more than dashboards. It is how Rwanda's engineers keep critical systems reliable. Join professionals building modern reliability skills and start your OBSF journey today.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral DevOps Institute credential that validates a foundational understanding of observability concepts, the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, SLIs, SLOs and observability tooling. It suits DevOps, SRE, platform and IT operations professionals.

The certification is offered by the DevOps Institute, now part of PeopleCert, a globally recognised body for DevOps and reliability practices. Invensis Learning is an Authorised Training Provider that delivers the course and prepares you for the exam.

Yes. As Rwanda scales digital services under Vision 2050, banks, fintechs, telecoms and government platforms need engineers who can keep systems reliable. OBSF proves modern observability skills and supports roles such as DevOps engineer, SRE and platform engineer.

There are no formal prerequisites, and the certification is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced engineers can both take the course.

The three pillars are metrics (measurements over time), logs (timestamped event records) and traces (end-to-end records of requests across distributed systems). Together they let you understand system behaviour, including failures you did not predict.

The Observability Foundation certification is valid for three years. It is renewed by earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities.

How many questions are on the OBSF exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and you have 60 minutes (one hour) to complete it. It is open book with single-answer questions.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

    Course Content

Can a beginner take this course?

Yes. There are no formal prerequisites, so beginners can enrol. The course starts from what observability is and how it differs from monitoring, then builds up to the three pillars, SLOs, OpenTelemetry and incident response, with trainer support throughout.

What topics are covered in the training?

The training covers the six modules of the OBSF Body of Knowledge: observability principles and the three pillars, metrics, logs and tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and SRE, AIOps and exam preparation.

    What learning resources are provided?

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams mapped to the 40-question, 60-minute open-book format, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness before the real test.

The Observability Foundation programme runs for 16 hours, delivered as two full days or four half-days. You can learn live virtual (online), in a classroom, or through corporate group training.
