What Is the PMI-RMP and Who Should Earn It?UntitledA Specialist Credential in Project Risk

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management, and PMI-RMP certification training in Brunei prepares you to identify, analyse, respond to and monitor risk across complex projects and programmes. It recognises your expertise in mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities, and it sets you apart from general project practitioners. The programme is aligned to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline (ECO) effective January 2022, the PMI Practice Standard for Project Risk Management and the PMBOK Guide, covering risk in predictive, agile and hybrid delivery. You study all five exam domains, from risk strategy and planning through to monitoring and closing risks, and build fluency in qualitative and quantitative techniques such as probability-impact analysis, Monte Carlo simulation and expected monetary value. Brunei's energy megaprojects, Wawasan 2035 diversification and tighter financial regulation are raising demand for certified risk specialists. Whether you work at an operator, a contractor or a bank, this credential validates the risk leadership employers now look for. Start your PMI-RMP journey with Invensis Learning.

How to Get PMI-RMP Certified in BruneiStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-RMP certification path in Brunei is a pure exam track: once your PMI application is approved, you proceed directly to the 115-question, 150-minute exam administered through Pearson VUE , no peer-panel review is required. From initial training to exam day typically takes 6-10 weeks, including application processing.

    Step 1: Confirm PMI-RMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets. Set A: high school or secondary school diploma (or global equivalent) + 36 months / 3 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 40 hours of project risk management education. Set B: bachelor's degree or higher (or global equivalent) + 24 months / 2 years of project risk management experience within the last 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Set C: bachelor's degree or higher from a GAC-accredited program + 12 months / 1 year of project risk management experience within the past 5 years + 30 hours of project risk management education. Education hours must be in project risk management topics specifically.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-RMP bootcamp, live virtual sessions, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned courseware, practice assessments, and expert-led guidance.

Step 3: Register on the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the PMI-RMP exam fee from ~$670 to ~$520 and gives access to the PMI Risk Management Practice Guide and the PMI Standard for Risk Management.

Step 4: Submit the PMI-RMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal: document your project risk management experience, list your 30 or 40 contact hours, and pay the application/exam fee (~$520 PMI member or ~$670 non-member). PMI typically processes applications within 5-10 business days. Unlike PfMP, no peer-panel review is required.

Step 5: Sit the 115-Question PMI-RMP Exam via Pearson VUE

Once approved, you receive a one-year exam eligibility window. Book your PMI-RMP exam through Pearson VUE , online proctored from your home or office in Brunei, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam is 115 multiple-choice and scenario questions over 150 minutes, covering all five risk management domains.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-RMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PMI-RMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 30 PDUs in risk-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

The Risk Capabilities You Will BuildMapped to the Five ECO Domains

This programme turns the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline into practical capability. By the end you can plan, identify, analyse, respond to, monitor and close risk on real projects, using the tools employers in Brunei's high-consequence sectors expect.

Build the Risk Strategy and Plan

Skills covered in the PMI-RMP start here: analyse project documents, assess the environment for threats and opportunities, confirm risk thresholds, and tailor a risk management plan to predictive, agile or hybrid delivery.

    Identify Threats and Opportunities

Facilitate structured identification using brainstorming, the Delphi technique, SWOT and assumption analysis, then document clear cause-risk-effect entries in a complete, validated risk register.

    Analyse Risk Qualitatively and Quantitatively

Prioritise risks with a probability-impact matrix and apply quantitative techniques such as Monte Carlo simulation, decision-tree analysis, sensitivity analysis and expected monetary value to model their effect on objectives.

    Plan and Implement Risk Responses

Develop response strategies for threats and opportunities, assign owners and triggers, build contingency and fallback plans, and integrate reserves into the schedule and budget.

    Monitor, Report and Close Risks

Track residual and secondary risks, run periodic risk reviews, report changes in the risk profile to stakeholders, and formally close risks with lessons captured for future projects.

Apply Risk Tools Across Agile and Hybrid Work

Use risk breakdown structures, tornado diagrams, heat maps and S-curves, and adapt the approach across predictive, agile and hybrid environments as reflected in the current ECO.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management. It recognises expertise in assessing risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It suits project risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and engineers who specialise in risk on projects and programmes.

    General

What is the PMI-RMP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management. It recognises expertise in assessing risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It suits project risk managers, senior project managers, PMO analysts and engineers who specialise in risk on projects and programmes.

Is the PMI-RMP worth it for professionals in Brunei?

Yes. Brunei's energy megaprojects, Wawasan 2035 diversification and tighter financial regulation are raising demand for certified risk specialists, who remain scarce against a deep pool of project managers. The credential differentiates you for senior risk roles across oil, gas, banking and construction.

Is the PMI-RMP recognised in Brunei?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-RMP is recognised by employers worldwide, including in Brunei. It is especially valued in high-risk sectors such as oil and gas, construction and financial services, where formal project risk management is often contractually or regulatorily required.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-RMP?

No. A PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many holders do carry both, as the two credentials are complementary, but the PMI-RMP stands on its own as a specialist risk qualification.

How long is the PMI-RMP valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year cycle and report them through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements system, then pay the renewal fee.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-RMP training fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, 32 contact hours of instruction, domain-wise practice questions, mock exams, exam-simulator access, application guidance and learner support. Talk to a learning advisor for a full inclusions list.

How much does PMI-RMP training cost in Brunei?

Training in Brunei is quoted in Brunei dollars and varies by format and cohort, so pricing is available on request. Request a quote and we will share current schedules and any group or corporate rates that apply.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the course price?

No. PMI bills the exam separately in USD under regional pricing, around USD 520 for members and USD 670 for non-members as a reference; confirm current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership can lower the exam fee and give access to the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing in Brunei?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for delivery teams, PMOs and risk functions. Ask about corporate pricing and we will tailor a quote for your team.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam has 115 questions to be completed in 2.5 hours (150 minutes). It is closed book and uses multiple-choice formats, including single-answer and multiple-answer questions, based on the PMI-RMP ECO effective January 2022.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers five domains from the January 2022 ECO: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What is the passing score for the PMI-RMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail, with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

How many attempts do I get if I do not pass?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility window that starts when PMI approves your application. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm current amounts at pmi.org.

Where can I take the PMI-RMP exam in Brunei?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring from home or office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website once your application is approved.

    Course Content

Does the training cover agile and hybrid risk management?

Yes. In line with the January 2022 ECO, the training covers risk management across predictive, agile and hybrid delivery, so you can apply the tools whatever approach your projects use.

Which standard is the course aligned to?

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes domain-wise practice questions, full-length mock exams and exam-simulator access mapped to the 115-question format, helping you find weak areas and build readiness before exam day.

Do I need prior experience to attend the training?

Anyone can attend the training to build risk skills and earn the 32 contact hours. Sitting the exam, however, requires the PMI experience and education prerequisites, which our advisors can help you assess before you apply.

    Enrollment

PMI offers three eligibility sets. Set A: a secondary diploma with 36 months of risk experience in the last five years and 40 hours of risk education. Set B: a bachelor's degree with 24 months and 30 hours. Set C: a GAC-accredited degree with 12 months and 30 hours.

How do I enrol in the PMI-RMP course in Brunei?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. See upcoming batches or talk to a learning advisor to get started.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live virtual instructor-led training, classroom sessions, self-paced e-learning and customised corporate group training, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule and learning style.

Does this training meet the PMI education requirement?

Yes. The programme provides 32 contact hours, which fully meets the 30-hour risk-education requirement for Set B and Set C candidates. Set A candidates need 40 hours and should add at least 8 further hours of risk education.

Can I reschedule or transfer my batch?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch, and selected plans let you attend the training twice. Contact support to arrange this ahead of your session.
