    What is the format of the CSM exam?

    The CSM exam is an open-book, multiple-choice test taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course. No proctor is required, and it is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.

    How many questions are on the CSM exam and how long is it?

    The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions and a time limit of 60 minutes (one hour). It is taken online after you complete an approved course.

    What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

    You need 74% to pass, which is 37 correct answers out of 50. The exam is open book, so you can refer to materials, but broad understanding of the Scrum framework is the best preparation.

    What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

    You typically have three attempts to pass within 90 days of completing the course. Our training and practice questions are designed to help you pass on the first attempt, so you can approach the exam with confidence.

    Do I need to attend a course before taking the exam?

    Yes. Scrum Alliance requires attendance at an approved CSM course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) before the exam is unlocked. You then access the online exam through your Scrum Alliance member account within 90 days.

    Do I need prior experience to take the CSM course?

    No. The CSM has no formal education or work experience requirement, so beginners are welcome. It is designed for those new to Scrum as well as professionals who want to formalise experience they already have.

    What topics does the CSM training cover?

    The training covers six areas: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artefacts, and the Scrum Master role, all aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.

    How long is the CSM training?

    The programme runs for 16 hours of instruction, typically over two full days, and can also be scheduled across shorter sessions. This meets the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hour requirement for the course.

    Are practice questions and materials provided?

    Yes. You receive Scrum Alliance-aligned courseware, practice questions mapped to the exam format, and real-world case studies that show Scrum Master facilitation, coaching and impediment removal in practice.

    Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?
