Who should take Observability Foundation training?

It suits DevOps engineers, site reliability engineers, platform engineers, developers, IT operations staff, and technical managers who want to implement or oversee observability. There are no formal prerequisites, though familiarity with DevOps or IT operations is helpful.

Who offers the Observability Foundation certification?

The certification is offered by the DevOps Institute (now part of PeopleCert), a globally recognised professional body focused on the human elements of DevOps. Invensis Learning is an Authorized Training Partner delivering the course aligned to the official Exam Blueprint.

How long is the OBSF certification valid?

The Observability Foundation certification is valid for three years. You renew it by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within each three-year cycle.

What is the format of the OBSF exam?

The Observability Foundation exam has 40 single-answer, multiple-choice questions to complete in 60 minutes. It is open book and based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge).

What is the passing score for the exam?

You need 65 per cent to pass, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Our mock exams and practice questions are designed to build readiness across all six modules.

How and where do I take the OBSF exam?

The exam is delivered online with remote proctoring via PeopleCert OnVUE, or at an authorised test centre. You can sit it from home or office in Iceland, subject to the proctoring requirements.

Are there any prerequisites to sit the exam?

No. There are no formal prerequisites for Observability Foundation. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is beneficial, and prior DevOps Foundation or SRE Foundation study can make the content more accessible.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

Our training includes first-attempt guidance and full mock exams to maximise your chances. If a resit is needed, we can advise on the DevOps Institute re-sit process and support your preparation. Talk to a learning advisor about retake options.

Course Content

What topics does the Observability Foundation course cover?

The course covers six modules: observability principles and the three pillars; metrics, logs and distributed tracing; SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets; OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines; alerting strategy and incident response; and SRE, AIOps and exam preparation.

Do I need prior experience to follow the course?

No prior observability experience is required. The programme starts with fundamentals and builds up, so developers, operations staff and engineers new to observability can follow it. Familiarity with IT systems helps but is not essential.

How long is the training and how is it delivered?

The Observability Foundation programme is 16 hours, typically delivered as two full days or four half-days. It is available online as live virtual instructor-led training and in classroom formats, plus customised corporate delivery.

Is the courseware aligned with the current syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge), covering observability concepts, the three pillars, tooling, SLIs, SLOs and organisational practices.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full mock exams mapped to the 40-question, 60-minute, open-book format, so you can identify weak areas and build confidence before the real exam.
