    Exam

    What is the format of the two exams?

    The Foundation exam has 40 closed-book, single-answer multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes. The Practitioner exam also has 40 closed-book questions in 60 minutes, but they are scenario-based and require you to apply techniques to project situations.

    What is the passing score for each exam?

    Both exams require 65 percent to pass, which is 26 out of 40 questions correct. The same pass mark applies to the Foundation and the Practitioner exam.

    Are there prerequisites for the exams?

    The Foundation level has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. The EXIN BCS Foundation Certificate is the recommended prerequisite before you sit the Practitioner exam, which is why the combined programme covers both in sequence.

    Where and how can I take the exams?

    Both exams can be taken online through EXIN's online proctored system or at an EXIN accredited testing location. They are usually arranged through your accredited training provider as part of the combined programme.

    What if I do not pass an exam on the first attempt?

    You can re-sit an EXIN exam by purchasing another voucher; verify the current re-sit policy at exin.com. Our training, mock exams and first-attempt guidance are designed to prepare you thoroughly so you can pass both the Foundation and Practitioner exams with confidence.

    Course Content

    What topics does the course cover?

    Foundation covers 14 topic areas, including investigation techniques, stakeholder analysis, requirements engineering, process modelling and the business case. Practitioner then covers seven applied areas, from the strategic context and current situation to identifying solutions and building the business case.

    What will I be able to do after the training?

    You will be able to run an analysis engagement end to end: elicit and prioritise requirements, model as-is and to-be processes with BPMN, manage stakeholders, and assess options and build a costed, justified business case using NPV, ROI and payback.

    Can a beginner take this course?

    Yes. The Foundation level assumes no prior business analysis knowledge, so beginners and career changers are welcome. The programme builds from core concepts to applied practitioner technique, with case studies and mock exams to support you throughout.

    Is the courseware aligned to the current standard?

    Yes. The courseware follows the EXIN BCS Foundation and Practitioner Examination Specifications and is aligned to the BCS Business Analysis Body of Knowledge, so you prepare against the current, quality-assured content for both levels.

    How long is the training programme?

    The combined programme is delivered as 32 hours of instructor-led training. It is typically run as four full days, or spread across more days at fewer hours per day, with Foundation content first and Practitioner content second.
