What is the format of the PMP exam?

How many questions are on the PMP exam and how long is it?

The PMP exam has 180 questions with an allotted time of 240 minutes (4 hours). Of those, 170 are scored and 10 are unscored pretest questions placed at random, which do not affect your result. Two 10-minute breaks are provided: the first after the case study section, the second about midway through the independent questions. The optional tutorial and survey are not counted in the 240 minutes. The 2026 exam uses case or scenario questions and graphic-based questions, both new in 2026, alongside multiple-choice single response, multiple-response and matching questions.
