What Is Driving UK Demand for Microsoft Project Skills

    Infrastructure Boom, Planner Shortage

HS2, Sizewell C and a 725 billion pound pipeline are creating a golden age of capital delivery, but the UK faces an acute shortage of planners who can build dependable schedules in Microsoft Project.

    Build reliable scheduling skills

    Spreadsheets Hit Their Limit

Many teams still plan large projects in Excel. Without dependency-linked schedules, slippage and resource clashes go unseen until they are costly, the exact problem this training solves.

    Move beyond manual planning

    Resource Overload and Cost Overruns

Capital discipline in infrastructure, BFSI and energy demands tight resource levelling and earned value tracking, capabilities Microsoft Project delivers when project teams know how to use them.

    Master levelling and earned value

    Defence and Nuclear Complexity

AUKUS, Sizewell C and long-duration programmes at BAE Systems and Rolls-Royce need multi-project scheduling, risk aggregation and earned value reporting at scale.

    Plan at programme scale

    PMO Standardisation Pressure

As UK PMOs mature, employers want consistent Microsoft Project scheduling and reporting across every project, not ad-hoc plans that only their author can read.

    Standardise your project practice

    Reporting Leaders Can Trust

Executives want dependable status and forecasts. Professionals who can produce Microsoft Project dashboards and variance reports are increasingly valued across UK employers.

    Produce clear status and forecasts

Invensis Learning delivers it at Fundamentals (2 days) and Advanced (3 days) levels with live exercises throughout.

    Who should take this course?

It suits project managers, coordinators, planners, schedulers, PMO analysts and team leads who plan or report on projects. Fundamentals is ideal for new or occasional users, while Advanced is for experienced users who want to master resource levelling, earned value and multi-project management.

Should I take the Fundamentals or Advanced level?

Choose Fundamentals if you are new to Microsoft Project or want a solid grounding in scheduling, resources and tracking. Choose Advanced if you already use the tool regularly and want resource levelling, cost and earned value, custom reports and programme management. You can take either independently.

Is Microsoft Project training worth it in the UK?

Yes. With HS2, Sizewell C, defence and energy programmes driving demand, UK employers actively seek professionals who can schedule reliably in Microsoft Project. Tool mastery can add 5 to 10 percent to planning and controls salaries, and the skills apply immediately at work.

Do I get a certificate after the course?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after completing the Fundamentals or Advanced programme. This is a skills training course, so there is no external exam or awarding body involved.

    Pricing

How much does Microsoft Project training cost in the UK?

Pricing varies by level, delivery format and group size, so fees are available on request. Share your preferred level and format and a learning advisor will provide a tailored quote. Ask about corporate or group pricing if you are training a team.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all modules, hands-on exercises using realistic project scenarios, structured courseware and learning resources, learner support, and a course completion certificate. Request a quote for the exact inclusions of your chosen format.

Do I need to buy Microsoft Project software separately?

You are expected to have Microsoft Project installed and accessible on your device for the hands-on exercises. Microsoft Project is a separate product from Microsoft, available as Standard, Professional or as part of Microsoft 365. Confirm software access with us when you enrol.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with tailored schedules and volume-based pricing for project teams, PMOs and business units. Contact us for a group quote built around your team size and goals.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment & Outcomes

Is there an exam for this course?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination at either level. Learning is reinforced through hands-on Microsoft Project exercises using realistic project scenarios, and you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning.

What will I be able to do after the Fundamentals level?

You will be able to create a project and calendar, build a task list with summary tasks, subtasks and milestones, link tasks with dependencies, identify the critical path, assign work, material and cost resources, set a baseline, track progress and generate built-in reports.

What will I be able to do after the Advanced level?

You will be able to apply task types correctly, connect a shared resource pool, run resource levelling, calculate and report earned value, build custom fields, views and reports, insert subprojects into a master project, create cross-project dependencies and plan what-if scenarios.

    Are the sessions hands-on?

Yes. Both levels are exercise-led. You follow along in Microsoft Project as the trainer demonstrates each feature, then practise on realistic project scenarios so you build genuine proficiency during the training rather than just watching.

Do I need prior experience to attend?

Fundamentals has no prerequisites, though basic familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office helps. For Advanced, you should have completed Fundamentals or have equivalent hands-on experience using Microsoft Project.

    Course Content

What topics does the Fundamentals level cover?

Fundamentals covers project setup and calendars, building the work breakdown structure, task durations and milestones, dependencies and the critical path, work, material and cost resources, over-allocation, baselines, progress tracking and built-in reporting, across 2 days (16 hours).

What does the Advanced level cover?

Advanced covers advanced scheduling and task types, resource pools and levelling, cost and earned value management, custom fields, views, tables and reports, master projects and cross-project dependencies, and what-if scenario planning, across 3 days (24 hours).

Which Microsoft Project versions does the course use?

The course uses a current version of the Microsoft Project desktop application, and the skills apply across Microsoft Project Standard, Professional and Project Online in Microsoft 365. Confirm the version and software access with us before your session.

Does the course cover resource levelling and earned value?

Yes, at the Advanced level. You learn automatic and manual resource levelling and how Microsoft Project calculates earned value metrics such as BCWS, BCWP, SPI and CPI, so you can measure and report project health.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive structured courseware, guided exercises and knowledge checks, plus realistic project scenarios to practise on throughout the programme. Corporate sessions can use your own project data for even more relevant, role-based learning.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in Microsoft Project training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your level and preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and joining details. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing the right level.

    What delivery formats are available?

We offer live virtual instructor-led training, classroom training and corporate onsite delivery for teams. This lets you learn online from anywhere in the UK or in person, whichever fits your schedule best.

    How long is each level?

Fundamentals runs over 2 days (16 hours) and Advanced over 3 days (24 hours). Both are available as full-day sessions or extended half-day formats. Check current schedules or ask an advisor about upcoming batches.

Can I reschedule or transfer my booking?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch on selected plans. Contact our support team and we will help you arrange it.

Can you deliver training onsite for my UK team?

Yes. We deliver corporate onsite and live virtual training for teams across the UK, tailored to your projects and schedule. Get in touch for a group quote and available dates.
