What Is Driving Observability Demand in Hong Kong

    HKMA Operational Resilience Deadline

Hong Kong banks must meet the HKMA's operational-resilience requirements by end-May 2026, pushing firms to prove they can detect, withstand and recover from disruption through strong observability.

OBSF builds SLO and incident-response skills

    Cloud Migration at Scale

Cloud now accounts for about 80% of reportable technology outsourcing at Hong Kong banks, and distributed cloud systems need observability that traditional monitoring cannot deliver.

    OBSF builds distributed-systems observability skills

Alert Fatigue and Slow Incident Response

Teams drowning in noisy alerts struggle to find root cause quickly. Observability skills turn scattered metrics, logs and traces into fast, confident answers during incidents.

    OBSF builds root-cause analysis skills

    Shortage of Observability Talent

Cloud and DevOps postings in Hong Kong rose 34% year on year, yet engineers fluent in OpenTelemetry, SLOs and distributed tracing remain scarce, making certified professionals stand out.

Skills You Will Build with OBSFThe Core Observability Toolkit

This Observability Foundation course builds the practical skills to implement observability in modern IT systems, mapped to the six modules of the DevOps Institute Body of Knowledge. By the end you can work confidently with metrics, logs, traces, SLOs and OpenTelemetry.

    The Three Pillars of Observability

Understand how metrics, logs and distributed traces work together, how observability differs from monitoring, and why high-cardinality telemetry matters for cloud-native and microservices systems.

    Metrics, Logs and Distributed Tracing

Work with counters, gauges and histograms, structured logging and log aggregation, and spans and trace context, then correlate all three for fast root-cause analysis.

SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and Error Budgets

Define service-level indicators that matter to users, set meaningful SLOs, and use error budgets to balance reliability against delivery velocity, the language that HKMA-driven resilience work relies on.

    OpenTelemetry and Telemetry Pipelines

Learn how OpenTelemetry SDKs, collectors and semantic conventions standardise instrumentation, and how sampling and pipelines control cost on high-cardinality data.

    Alerting Strategy and Incident Response

Move from alert-on-symptom to alert-on-burn-rate, design on-call rotations that reduce alert fatigue, and run blameless postmortems and continuous-learning loops.

    SRE, AIOps and Exam Readiness

See how observability underpins mature SRE and AIOps practice, and prepare for the 40-question, 60-minute open-book OBSF exam with structure and sample questions.
