Who awards the Observability Foundation certification?

The certification is awarded by the DevOps Institute, a global professional body, with exams delivered through PeopleCert. It is a vendor-neutral, specialist Foundation credential that complements DevOps Foundation and SRE Foundation.

Is Observability Foundation worth it for my career in Croatia?

Exam

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The exam has 40 single-answer, multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. It is an open-book exam based on the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge).

What is the passing score for the exam?

You need 65% to pass, which is 26 out of 40 questions correct. Because the exam is open book, focus on understanding the concepts and knowing where to find them quickly.

Are there any prerequisites for the exam?

No. There are no formal prerequisites for Observability Foundation, so it is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required.

How is the exam delivered?

The exam is delivered online with proctoring through PeopleCert OnVUE, or at an authorised test centre. You can sit it from home or the office once your booking is confirmed.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can resit the exam. Our training includes practice questions, mock exams and first-attempt guidance to maximise your chance of passing. Confirm current resit fees and policy with the DevOps Institute or a learning advisor.

What topics does the Observability Foundation training cover?

The training covers six modules: observability principles and the three pillars; metrics, logs and distributed tracing; SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets; OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines; alerting and incident response; and SRE, AIOps and exam preparation.

What will I learn about the three pillars of observability?

You learn how metrics, logs and traces each reveal system behaviour and how to correlate them for root-cause analysis. The course covers counters and histograms, structured logging, and distributed tracing with spans and trace context.

Do I need prior DevOps experience to take this course?

No prior experience is required. The course is beginner-friendly and starts from observability fundamentals, though familiarity with DevOps or IT operations helps you get more from the material. Trainers support you throughout.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 40-question, open-book format, plus case studies, so you can identify weak areas and build confidence before exam day.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest blueprint?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge, covering the pillars, tooling, SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, and organisational practices tested in the exam.
