    What is the format of the Black Belt exam?

    The IASSC Black Belt exam is a closed-book test of 150 multiple-choice questions, each worth one mark. A reference document with the required formulas and tables is provided. Some forms include up to 15 additional unscored questions.

    How long is the Black Belt exam and what is the pass mark?

    You have four hours (240 minutes) to complete the exam, and the passing score is 580 out of 750 points. Non-native speakers or candidates with a disability may be allowed an additional 60 minutes.

    How is the Black Belt exam delivered?

    The exam is available online with web-based proctoring on demand, 24/7, or at Pearson VUE test centres in over 165 countries. You can choose the option that suits you when you book.

    What is the exam application process?

    First prepare through training and review the Body of Knowledge, and optionally take the non-proctored evaluation exam to check readiness. Then purchase the exam voucher from IASSC, choose online or test-centre delivery, and schedule and sit the proctored exam.

    What happens if I do not pass the first time?

    You can retake the Black Belt exam by purchasing another voucher. Our training includes practice questions and full mock exams modelled on the real format to help you build readiness and pass with confidence.

    How do I maintain the Black Belt credential?

    Pass the recertification exam within three years to keep Current status. The recertification exam has 75 questions, a two-hour limit and a 70% pass mark, with a maximum of two attempts separated by at least two weeks.

    What topics does the Black Belt training cover?

    The training covers all five DMAIC phases: Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. You learn advanced statistics, hypothesis testing, regression, design of experiments, Lean tools and statistical process control, mapped to the official Body of Knowledge.

    What are the exam domain weightings?

    The exam weights the phases as Define 13.5%, Measure 21.5%, Analyse 26.5%, Improve 16.5% and Control 22.0%. The training gives proportionate focus so you are ready across every domain.

    Do I need prior Six Sigma experience?

    No prior certification is required, though Green Belt knowledge or real project experience helps. The training builds from core concepts to advanced statistics, so motivated learners new to Black Belt level can follow it with the support provided.
