Who governs the DevOps Foundation certification?

The certification is governed by PeopleCert (DevOps Institute) and is based on the DevOps Foundation Body of Knowledge and the official DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint. It is a globally recognised, vendor-neutral credential accepted by employers worldwide.

Are there any prerequisites for DevOps Foundation?

No. DevOps Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to everyone, regardless of education, experience or prior DevOps knowledge. Familiarity with basic IT concepts is helpful but not required.

How long is the DevOps Foundation certification valid?

The certification is valid for three years. To maintain it, you renew every three years by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities.

What is the format of the DevOps Foundation exam?

The exam is a closed-book, single-answer multiple-choice test based on the DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint. It covers six topic areas spanning DevOps foundations, concepts and practices, the continuous delivery pipeline, automation and tooling, Agile/ITSM/Lean IT and DevOps culture.

How many questions are on the exam and what is the passing score?

The exam has 40 questions to be completed in 60 minutes. The passing score is 65 percent, so you need at least 26 correct answers out of 40 to pass.

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You can re-sit the exam if needed, and our training focuses on preparing you to pass on your first attempt through practice questions, mock exams and trainer guidance. Confirm the current re-sit policy and any fees with the DevOps Institute before booking.

Where can I take the DevOps Foundation exam?

The exam is delivered online through PeopleCert OnVUE proctoring, so you can sit it from home or the office, or at an authorised test centre. It is often arranged as part of a training and exam bundle.

Which standard is the exam based on?

The exam is based on the current DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint published by the DevOps Institute, aligned to the DevOps Foundation Body of Knowledge covering DevOps culture, practices and principles at a foundational level.

What topics are covered in the DevOps Foundation training?

The 16-hour programme covers all six exam topic areas: DevOps foundations, DevOps concepts and practices, Agile/ITSM/Lean IT, the continuous delivery pipeline, automation and tooling, and DevOps culture and organisation, including the Three Ways, CALMS and DORA metrics.

Can a beginner take this course, or do I need prior experience?

Beginners are welcome. There are no prerequisites, and the training builds understanding from the ground up using case studies and practical examples. Basic familiarity with IT concepts helps but is not required.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams mapped to the 40-question format, plus case studies illustrating DevOps practices, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

How long is the DevOps Foundation training?

The training is a 16-hour programme, typically delivered as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule you choose. It covers all six exam topic areas and prepares you for the certification.

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge from the DevOps Institute, so you study material that matches what the exam evaluates.
