Observability Careers Scaling in the PhilippinesDemand, Roles and Pay

Observability has become one of the fastest-growing skill sets in the Philippines, valued by IT-BPM firms, Global Capability Centres, banks, fintechs and telecoms that run large, always-on digital platforms. As cloud-native adoption accelerates and the local DevOps market grows at over 21% a year, employers increasingly separate certified observability and reliability talent from the rest. What Is Driving Observability Demand in the Philippines?

Monitoring Alone Is No Longer Enough

Cloud-native and microservices systems fail in ways traditional monitoring cannot explain. Employers need engineers who can understand novel failures from metrics, logs and traces, the exact gap observability closes.

    OBSF teaches observability beyond monitoring

    Reliability Pressure on Digital Platforms

Fintechs, banks and e-commerce platforms in the Philippines cannot afford downtime. Defining SLIs, SLOs and error budgets is now a core skill, and certified reliability talent is in short supply.

OBSF builds SLI and SLO capability

    Cloud-Native Complexity at Scale

GCCs and outsourcing firms run distributed systems across many services. Distributed tracing and OpenTelemetry instrumentation are needed to see across them, skills the OBSF programme builds directly.

    OBSF covers OpenTelemetry and tracing

Alert Fatigue and Slow Incident Response

Noisy alerts and slow root-cause work drive up mean time to resolve. Burn-rate alerting, structured runbooks and blameless postmortems help teams respond faster and learn continuously.

OBSF builds alerting and response skills

    Observability Talent Is Scarce

The Philippines has a deep pool of DevOps engineers but few with a formal observability credential. A vendor-neutral OBSF certification helps professionals stand out to hiring managers.

OBSF makes certified engineers stand out

    Telemetry Cost and Data Growth

High-cardinality telemetry can become expensive fast. Engineers who understand sampling strategies and telemetry pipelines help organisations control cost without losing visibility.

    OBSF builds telemetry pipeline skills

Observability is more than a buzzword. It is the skill set keeping the Philippines' digital economy reliable. Join engineers who understand their systems, not just watch them, and lead on reliability. Start your journey today.

    Exam

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The OBSF exam is an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice examination based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint. It covers the three pillars, SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, OpenTelemetry, alerting and organisational observability practices.

How many questions are on the OBSF exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 questions and you have 60 minutes (one hour) to complete it. It is delivered as an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice paper.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

The pass mark is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Broad understanding across all topic areas of the exam blueprint gives you the best chance of passing.

How and where do I take the OBSF exam?

You can take the exam online with proctoring through PeopleCert OnVUE, or at an authorised test centre. This lets you sit the 40-question, 60-minute paper from home, the office or a nearby centre in the Philippines.

What happens if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You can re-sit the exam under the DevOps Institute re-examination policy. Our training includes practice questions, mock exams and first-attempt guidance to help you pass with confidence and reduce the risk of a retake.

Which standard is the OBSF exam based on?

The exam is based on the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and its underlying Body of Knowledge, covering observability principles, the three pillars, tooling, SLIs/SLOs/SLAs and organisational practices.

    Course Content

What topics does the Observability Foundation training cover?

The programme covers six areas: observability principles and the three pillars; metrics, logs and distributed tracing; SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets; OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines; alerting strategy and incident response; and SRE, AIOps and exam preparation.

What are the three pillars of observability?

The three pillars are metrics, logs and traces. Metrics measure system behaviour over time, logs record discrete events, and traces follow a request end to end across distributed systems. Together they let you understand why a system behaves as it does.

What is OpenTelemetry and why does it matter?

OpenTelemetry (OTel) is the vendor-neutral standard for collecting metrics, logs and traces from software systems. The course teaches its SDKs, collectors and sampling strategies so you can instrument services consistently and manage telemetry cost.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full mock exams aligned to the 40-question, open-book OBSF format, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness before you sit the paper.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest OBSF blueprint?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge, so you study the concepts, tooling and practices the exam actually assesses.

Do I need prior experience to follow the course?

No prior experience is required, as OBSF has no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with DevOps or IT operations helps, and the training is structured so beginners to observability can follow along with hands-on examples.
