Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Yes. CAPM is a recognised way to prove project management knowledge when you have little or no experience, which helps you stand out for project coordinator, administrator and PMO analyst roles. With South African employers in IT, finance, construction and the public sector hiring project support staff, it is a practical first step and a stepping stone toward the PMP.

    General

Is the CAPM certification worth it in South Africa?

What is the CAPM certification and who is it for?

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is PMI's entry-level credential, proving you understand the fundamentals, terminology and processes of project management. It is designed for students, recent graduates, career changers and project team members entering the profession, with no prior project experience required.

Do I need work experience to take CAPM?

No. CAPM is the only PMI practitioner credential that requires no project management work experience. You need a secondary degree, such as a matric certificate or global equivalent, plus 23 hours of project management education, which this training provides.

How long is the CAPM certification valid?

CAPM is valid for three years from the date of certification. Unlike the PMP and other PMI credentials, CAPM is renewed by retaking and passing the exam within the three-year cycle, not by earning PDUs.

    Is CAPM recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, CAPM carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. South African and international employers recognise it as a credible entry-level project management credential and a signal of commitment to the profession.

    Pricing

How much does CAPM training cost in South Africa?

Training fees are quoted in South African rand and vary by format and schedule, so pricing is available on request. The fee typically includes courseware, practice questions, mock exams and learner support. The PMI exam fee is billed separately. Request a quote or speak with a learning advisor for current pricing.

What is included in the CAPM course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware mapped to the four exam domains, practice questions, mock exams, chapter-wise quizzes, first-attempt exam guidance, learner support, and a course completion certificate confirming your 23 hours of project management education.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the CAPM exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and it is not part of the training fee. PMI membership reduces the exam cost and gives free access to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and Agile Practice Guide. Confirm current fees at pmi.org.

    Exam

What does the CAPM exam cover?

The CAPM exam covers four domains from the 2023 CAPM ECO: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (36%), Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies (17%), Agile Frameworks and Methodologies (20%), and Business Analysis Frameworks (27%). It is aligned to the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition.

How long is the CAPM exam and how many questions?

The CAPM exam has 150 questions and a time limit of 3 hours (180 minutes). It is a closed-book, multiple-choice exam delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

Is there a fixed passing score for the CAPM exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score rather than a fixed percentage. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback across the four CAPM domains, so aim for broad mastery of fundamentals, predictive, agile and business analysis content.

Where can I take the CAPM exam?

You can take the CAPM exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring system from home or the office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website once your application is approved.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You may take the CAPM exam up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. Our training includes mock exams, practice questions and first-attempt guidance to prepare you thoroughly. A re-examination fee applies to further attempts and is confirmed by PMI.
