What Is Observability Foundation and Why It MattersUntitledYour Entry into Modern Observability

The Observability Foundation (OBSF) certification is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute (PeopleCert) that validates your understanding of the concepts, practices and tools needed to implement observability in modern IT environments. Observability Foundation certification training in Botswana gives IT, DevOps, SRE and operations professionals a structured route to that credential. The programme is aligned to the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge) and covers the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, along with SLIs, SLOs and SLAs, OpenTelemetry, alerting and incident response. You learn how observability differs from traditional monitoring and how to understand a system's internal state from its external outputs. Delivered in live online and corporate formats, the training suits practitioners in Gaborone and across Botswana who support cloud-native and microservices systems. With no formal prerequisites, an open-book 40-question exam and a globally recognised badge, the credential is a clear first step. Start your observability journey with Invensis Learning.

Invensis Learning is a Peoplecert Accredited Training Organization (2778) in Botswana, approved to deliver official Observability Foundation training using accredited courseware and standards.

Why Botswana Employers Need Observability Skills Now

    Cloud Migration Without Visibility

As Botswana government and enterprise services move to the cloud under SmartBots, many teams lack the instrumentation to see how distributed systems actually behave in production.

    OBSF builds cloud-native observability skills

    Monitoring That Cannot Explain Why

Traditional dashboards flag that something broke but not why. Local teams need observability practices that expose unknown failures across microservices, not just known thresholds.

    OBSF teaches observability beyond monitoring

Downtime Costs in Banks and Telecoms

For Botswana banks and mobile operators, minutes of outage hit revenue and trust. Reliable services demand SLIs, SLOs and fast, evidence-led incident response.

OBSF builds SLI, SLO and incident skills

Alert Fatigue in Lean Ops Teams

Small operations teams are buried in noisy, low-value alerts. Burn-rate alerting and better signals let engineers focus on what genuinely affects users.

OBSF builds alerting and on-call skills

    Scarce Certified Observability Talent

Botswana has a growing pool of developers but few credentialed observability, DevOps and SRE practitioners, making a recognised foundation credential a real differentiator.

OBSF makes certified professionals stand out

    Fragmented, Costly Tooling

Overlapping, proprietary tools inflate cost and lock teams in. Vendor-neutral OpenTelemetry skills help organisations standardise telemetry and control observability spend.

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute (PeopleCert). It validates a foundational understanding of the concepts, practices and tools needed to implement observability, including the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, SLIs, SLOs and observability tooling.

It suits DevOps engineers, SREs, platform engineers, developers, IT operations staff and technical managers who want a recognised observability credential. There are no formal prerequisites, though familiarity with DevOps or IT operations is helpful.

The credential is offered by the DevOps Institute (PeopleCert), a globally recognised professional body focused on advancing DevOps and modern IT practices. Invensis Learning delivers the training as an Authorized Training Provider.

The certification is valid for three years. To renew, you earn the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within each three-year cycle.

    Exam

What is the format of the OBSF exam?

The Observability Foundation exam is open book with single-answer multiple-choice questions, based on the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge). It is delivered online through PeopleCert OnVUE proctoring or at authorised test centres.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and you have 60 minutes to complete it. Because it is open book, the focus is on applying observability concepts rather than pure recall.

What is the passing score for Observability Foundation?

The pass mark is 65 percent, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Our training and mock questions are designed to build broad mastery across all six modules.

Are there prerequisites to sit the exam?

No. Observability Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is beneficial but not required to enrol or sit the exam.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first try?

You can re-sit the exam under the DevOps Institute re-sit policy. Our training includes first-attempt guidance, mock exams and practice questions to help you prepare thoroughly. Confirm current re-sit details with your advisor.

Do I need prior experience to follow the training?

No prior certification is needed. The course starts from observability fundamentals, so beginners can follow along, while some exposure to DevOps or IT operations helps you get the most from the practical examples.

The programme runs for 16 hours, typically delivered over two full days or four half-days. It covers all six modules of the Observability Foundation Body of Knowledge with case studies and practice questions.

Is the courseware aligned to the current exam?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge) published by the DevOps Institute, covering the three pillars, SLOs, OpenTelemetry and organisational practices.
