What Is the PMI-CP Certification?UntitledYour Specialist Path in Construction Project Delivery

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is the Project Management Institute's specialist certification for professionals who deliver construction projects. It validates your ability to apply project management skills across the construction lifecycle, and it is valued by employers throughout Ecuador's building, infrastructure and energy sectors. Aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and the current PMBOK Guide, the credential covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It also requires four mandatory self-paced PMI modules before you apply, so your foundation is set before exam day. With Ecuador declaring 2026 its year of construction and a multi-billion-dollar pipeline in roads, ports, housing and energy, certified construction project leaders are in demand. Start your PMI-CP journey with Invensis Learning and prepare to deliver complex projects on time, on budget and to standard.

How to Get PMI-CP Certified in EcuadorStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in Ecuador is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in Ecuador or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) is the Project Management Institute's specialist credential for professionals who deliver construction projects. It suits construction project managers, site and project engineers, contracts managers and owner's representatives who want to prove construction-specific project management skill.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Ecuador?

Yes. With Ecuador declaring 2026 its year of construction and a multi-billion-dollar project pipeline, employers value certified construction project leaders. Construction project managers in Ecuador average around $55,000 a year, and PMI-CP helps you qualify for senior roles. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

    Is PMP required before PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, with PMP validating broad project management and PMI-CP validating construction-specific expertise.

Is the PMI-CP recognised in Ecuador?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by contractors, infrastructure firms and owners in Ecuador delivering building, transport, port and energy projects.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.

What standard is the PMI-CP based on?
