What Is Quality Function Deployment and What Can You Do with It?UntitledCustomer-Driven Design, Made Practical

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into precise engineering and design characteristics across the product development lifecycle. Quality Function Deployment training in France equips product designers, quality engineers, R&D specialists and Six Sigma practitioners to capture what customers genuinely need and design it in from the start. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard in 1972, QFD uses the House of Quality matrix to link customer requirements (the WHATs) to measurable engineering characteristics (the HOWs), expose design trade-offs, benchmark against competitors and set clear engineering targets. It is applied across aerospace, automotive, consumer goods, healthcare and software, the same sectors that anchor France's industrial base. This practical programme runs hands-on House of Quality exercises throughout, so you leave able to lead a Voice of the Customer workshop, build a complete House of Quality and cascade requirements through parts, process and production planning. Start building customer-driven design skills with Invensis Learning.

    General

What is Quality Function Deployment (QFD)?

Quality Function Deployment is a structured, customer-driven method for translating the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics. Its main tool is the House of Quality matrix, which links what customers want to how a product or service is designed to deliver it.

Who should attend QFD training in France?

The training suits product designers, design and quality engineers, product managers, marketing and R&D professionals, and Six Sigma practitioners. It is ideal for anyone in France who needs to translate customer requirements into design or service specifications across new product development.

Is QFD training worth it for my career?

Yes. QFD is a practical, in-demand skill across French aerospace, automotive, consumer goods and medical device sectors, where roles like quality engineer, product manager and R&D lead command strong salaries. It equips you to design products customers genuinely want, a capability employers value.

Do I need prior experience to learn QFD?

No prior experience is required. The course introduces QFD and the House of Quality from first principles. Familiarity with product development or quality management is helpful but not essential, as all concepts and tools are taught step by step.

Which industries in France use QFD?

QFD is used across aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, consumer goods, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, healthcare services and software. In France it supports major employers such as Airbus, Safran, Stellantis, Renault and L'Oreal in translating customer needs into design.

    Pricing

How much does QFD training cost in France?

Pricing varies by delivery format, group size and whether you enrol as an individual or a team. Fees are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current individual and corporate pricing that fits your needs.

What is included in the QFD course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six QFD modules, hands-on House of Quality exercises, course materials, templates and learner support. You also receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning on finishing the programme.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer tailored corporate and group pricing for teams, PMOs and business units, with schedules built around your availability. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a quote suited to your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Are there discounts for training a whole team?

Yes. Group and corporate bookings can qualify for volume-based pricing, and onsite delivery is often more cost-effective for teams. Request a group quote and we will tailor it to your team size and format.

    Assessment

How is the QFD training assessed?

Learning is reinforced through hands-on House of Quality construction exercises, case studies and team discussion rather than a formal assessment. You practise building and interpreting real QFD matrices throughout the programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. On completing the programme you receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning, recognising the QFD skills you have built. The practical skills are immediately applicable to your product and service design work.

How long is the QFD training?

The programme is delivered in one day (8 hours), covering QFD foundations, Voice of the Customer capture, full House of Quality construction, the four-phase cascade and QFD in Design for Six Sigma and services, with hands-on exercises throughout.

What will I be able to do after the training?

You will be able to capture and structure the Voice of the Customer, build a complete House of Quality, calculate design priorities, resolve conflicts using the correlation roof, and cascade requirements through parts, process and production planning.

Is the QFD skill set applicable at work straight away?

Yes. QFD is a practical, tool-focused method you can apply immediately to new product development, service design and quality planning. Many learners run a Voice of the Customer workshop or build a House of Quality on a live project soon after training.

    Course Content

What topics does the QFD course cover?

The course covers QFD principles and origins, Voice of the Customer capture, the Kano model, full House of Quality construction, interpreting the matrix, the four-phase QFD cascade, and QFD in Design for Six Sigma, DMAIC and service design.

What is the House of Quality?

The House of Quality is the central QFD planning matrix. It links customer requirements to measurable engineering characteristics, rates their relationships, uses a correlation roof to expose design conflicts, benchmarks competitors and sets engineering targets. You build one hands-on during the course.

Does the course cover the Voice of the Customer?

Yes. Capturing and structuring the Voice of the Customer is a core module. You learn data collection methods, customer segmentation, affinity diagrams, the three-level requirement hierarchy, the Kano model and importance weighting.

Is QFD applicable to services and software?

Yes. Although QFD began in manufacturing, the course covers its use in services such as healthcare and financial services, and in software, translating user and stakeholder requirements into delivery standards and design decisions.

What QFD framework is taught in the course?

The course teaches the widely used four-phase QFD model developed by Yoji Akao: product planning (the House of Quality), parts deployment, process planning and production planning, ensuring customer requirements drive decisions from concept to production.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the QFD course in France?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, course materials and learning resources. A learning advisor can help you pick the right batch.

    What training formats are available?

We offer live online instructor-led training, classroom sessions and customised onsite corporate delivery, so you can choose the format that fits your schedule and team. See upcoming batches or talk to an advisor to get started.

Can the course be delivered onsite for my team?

Yes. Corporate onsite delivery is available across France, and it is especially effective because your team can build a House of Quality for one of your own products during the exercises. Request a group quote to arrange it.

Can I reschedule my enrolment to another batch?

Yes. Flexible options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch where available. Contact our support team and we will help you move to a date that works better for you.

How soon can I start the QFD training?

New batches run regularly in live online and classroom formats, and onsite corporate sessions can be scheduled around your team. Check upcoming schedules or speak with a learning advisor to find the earliest suitable start date.
