What is the CAPM certification and who is it for?

The Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) is PMI's entry-level credential that proves you understand the fundamentals, terminology and processes of project management. It is designed for students, recent graduates, career changers and project team members who want to enter the profession, with no prior project experience required.

Do I need work experience to take CAPM?

No. CAPM requires no project management work experience, which makes it unique among PMI credentials. You need a secondary degree (high school diploma or global equivalent) and 23 hours of project management education, which this training provides.

Is CAPM recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, CAPM is recognised by employers worldwide through PMI's network across more than 200 countries. It signals foundational project management knowledge and a genuine commitment to the profession.

How long is the CAPM certification valid?

CAPM is valid for three years. Unlike PMP and most other PMI credentials, you renew CAPM by retaking and passing the CAPM exam within the three-year cycle, not by earning PDUs.

No. PMI bills the CAPM exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing. PMI membership reduces the exam fee and gives free access to the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition and Agile Practice Guide. Confirm current fees on the PMI website before applying.

What is the format of the CAPM exam?

The CAPM exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the CAPM Examination Content Outline effective 2023 and the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition. It is delivered through Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the CAPM exam and how long is it?

The CAPM exam has 150 questions and you have three hours (180 minutes) to complete it. Question formats include single-answer and multiple-answer multiple choice.

What does the CAPM exam cover?

The exam covers four domains from the 2023 Examination Content Outline: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (36%), Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies (17%), Agile Frameworks and Methodologies (20%), and Business Analysis Frameworks (27%).

Is there a fixed passing score for CAPM?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. Your result is determined through psychometric analysis and reported with performance feedback, so aim for broad mastery across all four CAPM domains rather than a single target score.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You are allowed up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period. Our practice questions, mock exams and trainer guidance are built to help you pass on your first attempt, and re-examination fees apply to later attempts.
