Who awards the Observability Foundation certification?

How long is the Observability Foundation certification valid?

OBSF is valid for three years. You renew it by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within each three-year cycle.

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The OBSF exam has 40 single-answer, multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. It is an open-book exam based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint.

What is the passing score for the OBSF exam?

The passing score is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. The course includes practice questions and mock exams to help you reach that standard with confidence.

How is the Observability Foundation exam delivered?

The exam is delivered online with proctoring through PeopleCert OnVUE, or at an authorised test centre. This lets you sit it from home or office in Sweden at a time that suits you.

You will learn to make modern systems observable using metrics, logs and traces, instrument code with OpenTelemetry, define SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, design effective alerting and incident response, and apply observability within SRE and AIOps practice.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest OBSF Exam Blueprint?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and its Body of Knowledge, so you study the same topics and terminology the exam assesses.

Does the course cover OpenTelemetry?

Yes. OpenTelemetry, the vendor-neutral CNCF standard for instrumentation, is a core part of the syllabus. You learn about collectors, semantic conventions, telemetry pipelines and sampling strategies.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Do I need coding experience to take this course?

How long is the Observability Foundation training?

The instructor-led training is a 16-hour programme, usually delivered over two full days or four half-days. It covers all six exam topic areas and prepares you for the 40-question, 60-minute exam.
