What is the Observability Foundation certification?

Observability Foundation (OBSF) is a vendor-neutral credential from the DevOps Institute that validates a foundational understanding of the concepts, practices and tools needed to implement observability. It covers the three pillars of metrics, logs and traces, plus SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and observability tooling.

Who offers the Observability Foundation certification?

The certification is offered by the DevOps Institute, part of PeopleCert, a globally recognised professional body focused on DevOps, SRE and continuous learning. Invensis Learning is an authorised training provider delivering the course in Ukraine.

Are there prerequisites for the OBSF certification?

No. There are no formal prerequisites and the course is open to all. Familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful but not required, which makes it accessible to developers, operations staff and engineers moving into reliability roles.

How long is the Observability Foundation certification valid?

The certification is valid for three years. You renew it by earning the required Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities within each three-year cycle.

How much does Observability Foundation training cost in Ukraine?

Training fees vary by format, whether live virtual, classroom or corporate group delivery, and are quoted in local currency on request. The DevOps Institute exam fee is billed separately in USD. Request a quote for current pricing and batch options.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes course materials aligned to the official Body of Knowledge, expert-led sessions, practice questions and mock exams, an exam voucher where bundled, and learner support. Confirm exact inclusions when you request your quote.

Is the exam fee included in the training price?

Exam voucher inclusion depends on the package you choose. Where it is included, the DevOps Institute exam is bundled with your training; otherwise it is billed separately in USD. Ask a learning advisor to confirm what your package covers.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

What is the format of the OBSF exam?

The Observability Foundation exam is open book with single-answer, multiple-choice questions. It is delivered online and proctored through PeopleCert OnVUE, or taken at an authorised test centre, and is based on the current DevOps Institute Exam Blueprint.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 questions and you have 60 minutes (1 hour) to complete it. It is an open-book paper, so understanding the concepts and knowing where to find the detail both matter.

What is the passing score for the OBSF exam?

The passing score is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Our mock exams and practice questions are mapped to this format to help you prepare with confidence.

What topics does the exam cover?

The exam covers the six modules of the official Body of Knowledge: observability principles and the three pillars; metrics, logs and distributed tracing; SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets; OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines; alerting and incident response; and SRE, AIOps and exam preparation.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You can re-sit the Observability Foundation exam. Retake policies and any fees are set by the DevOps Institute, and our trainers provide first-attempt guidance and targeted practice to help you pass. Ask our team about current re-sit details.

Course Content

What will I learn in the Observability Foundation course?

You will learn to make cloud-native systems observable using metrics, logs and distributed traces, define SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, instrument systems with OpenTelemetry, and run modern alerting and incident response. The syllabus follows the official six-module Body of Knowledge.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No prior experience is required. The course starts with observability fundamentals, so beginners and those new to reliability engineering can follow along, while experienced DevOps and operations staff can formalise skills they already use.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 40-question, 60-minute open-book format, plus knowledge checks that help you spot weak areas and build exam readiness before your attempt.

How long is the training?

The Observability Foundation programme runs for 16 hours of instructor-led training, typically delivered as two full days or four half-days, so you can choose the schedule that fits your working week.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest syllabus?

Yes. The course materials are aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint and Body of Knowledge, so you study the concepts, tooling and practices the exam assesses.
