The PMI Risk Management Professional (PMI-RMP) is PMI's specialist credential in project risk management. It recognises expertise in identifying and assessing project risks, mitigating threats and capitalising on opportunities. It suits risk specialists, senior project managers, PMO analysts and consultants.

Is PMP required before the PMI-RMP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for the PMI-RMP. You can apply directly based on your risk management experience and education. Many holders do hold both, as the two credentials are highly complementary.

Is the PMI-RMP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-RMP is recognised by employers worldwide. It is especially valued in high-risk industries such as construction, banking, energy and mining, where formal project risk management is contractually or regulatorily expected.

How long is the PMI-RMP certification valid?

The PMI-RMP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 30 PDUs in risk management topics within each three-year cycle through PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements system.

No. PMI bills the PMI-RMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and it varies, so confirm the current amount at pmi.org. PMI membership can reduce the exam fee and gives free access to the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management.

What is the format of the PMI-RMP exam?

The PMI-RMP exam is closed book with multiple-choice questions in single-answer and multiple-answer formats. It is based on the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline effective January 2022 and delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or a test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-RMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 115 questions and you have 2.5 hours (150 minutes) to complete it. Questions are spread across five risk management domains defined in the current exam content outline.

What are the PMI-RMP exam domains and their weights?

There are five domains in the January 2022 outline: Risk Strategy and Planning (20%), Risk Identification (20%), Risk Analysis (23%), Risk Response (22%) and Monitor and Close Risks (15%).

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-RMP?

PMI offers three routes. With a secondary diploma: 36 months of risk experience in the last 5 years plus 40 hours of risk education. With a four-year degree: 24 months plus 30 hours. With a GAC-accredited degree: 12 months plus 30 hours. Experience must be specifically in project risk management.

What if I do not pass the PMI-RMP exam the first time?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Our training includes structured practice and mock exams to build readiness, and PMI charges a re-examination fee for later attempts.

What will I learn in the PMI-RMP training?

You will learn the full project risk life cycle across the five exam domains: risk strategy and planning, identification, qualitative and quantitative analysis, response planning, and monitoring and closing risks, in predictive, agile and hybrid delivery.

Can a beginner in risk management take this course?

The training welcomes newcomers to specialist risk work, though the PMI-RMP exam itself requires documented project risk experience. Trainers start from core concepts and build up to quantitative tools, with hands-on practice throughout, so you are supported at every step.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-RMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, an overview of the Practice Standard for Project Risk Management, templates, flashcards and topic-wise quizzes.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 115-question, closed-book format, plus topic-wise quizzes to help you find weak areas and build exam readiness.

Does this training satisfy the PMI-RMP education requirement?

The programme provides 32 contact hours of risk management education, which fully meets the 30-hour requirement for degree-holder and GAC-accredited routes. Candidates on the secondary-diploma route need 40 hours and should add at least 8 more hours of study.
