What Is Design for Six Sigma and How Does DMADV Work?UntitledDesigning Quality in from the Start

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a proactive Six Sigma methodology for designing new products, services and processes that meet customer requirements and reach Six Sigma quality levels from the very start, rather than fixing defects after launch. The Design for Six Sigma Training in Guatemala is a one-day, instructor-led course that teaches this methodology through the DMADV roadmap: Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. Where DMAIC improves processes that already exist, DFSS designs quality in before the first unit is built. Across the day you learn to capture the Voice of the Customer, flow customer needs down into Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements, build a Quality Function Deployment House of Quality, compare concepts with the Pugh matrix, run a Design FMEA, and apply robust design and design verification. The course suits design and process engineers, R&D professionals, quality engineers, new product development leads, and Six Sigma Green Belts and Black Belts who want to add DFSS to their toolkit. In Guatemala's fast-growing manufacturing base, these are the skills that turn customer needs into products that work first time.

Run the DMADV Roadmap End to End

Apply the full Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify roadmap to a new product or process, and know when DFSS is the right choice over DMAIC improvement.

Capture the Voice of the Customer and Set CTQs

Gather customer needs with interviews, observation and the Kano model, then flow them down into specific, measurable Critical to Quality requirements you can design to.

Build a QFD House of Quality

Translate customer requirements into engineering characteristics using Quality Function Deployment, set design targets, and spot conflicts through the correlation roof.

Select Concepts with the Pugh Matrix

Generate multiple design concepts and compare them against weighted criteria and a datum, so the strongest concept wins on evidence rather than opinion.

Run a Design FMEA and Prioritise by RPN

Identify potential design failure modes, score severity, occurrence and detection, calculate the Risk Priority Number, and target the highest-risk items with design actions.

Apply Robust Design and Verify the Result

Use the P-diagram and robust design thinking to reduce sensitivity to variation, then plan design verification and validation against every CTQ before transfer.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Design for Six Sigma training is a one-day, non-certification course in the DFSS methodology, which designs new products, services and processes to Six Sigma quality levels from the start using the DMADV roadmap. It suits design and process engineers, R&D and quality professionals, new product development leads, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts.

    General

What is the Design for Six Sigma training and who is it for?

Design for Six Sigma training is a one-day, non-certification course in the DFSS methodology, which designs new products, services and processes to Six Sigma quality levels from the start using the DMADV roadmap. It suits design and process engineers, R&D and quality professionals, new product development leads, and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts.

Is Design for Six Sigma worth it for engineers in Guatemala?

Yes. As nearshoring and export demand grow Guatemala's manufacturing base, employers in food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, textiles and consumer goods increasingly need engineers who can design quality in rather than inspect it later. DFSS skills apply directly to those roles and travel across sectors.

What is the difference between DFSS and DMAIC?

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services or processes so they meet requirements from the outset. DFSS uses the DMADV roadmap. Organisations typically use both: DMAIC to improve what exists and DFSS to design what is new.

Do I need prior Six Sigma knowledge to take this course?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma ideas such as CTQ, DMAIC and variation is helpful but not required, as the course introduces all DFSS tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles.

    What is the DMADV roadmap?

DMADV stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. It is the most widely used DFSS framework, guiding a team from defining customer requirements, through measuring and translating them into CTQs, analysing and selecting concepts, creating a robust design, and verifying it before launch.

    Pricing

How much does the Design for Six Sigma training cost in Guatemala?

Fees vary by delivery mode, group size and whether you enrol as an individual or a team, so pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a current quote for public or on-site sessions in Guatemala.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led delivery of all six DFSS modules, hands-on exercises on VOC, QFD, Pugh selection and Design FMEA, structured courseware, learner support, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Request a quote for full inclusions.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer customised group training with volume-based pricing for engineering teams, PMOs and business units. It is well suited to on-site delivery where a team applies the tools to its own live design projects. Ask about corporate pricing.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is there a discount for training a whole team?

Group and corporate bookings typically qualify for volume-based rates, and delivering to a full team is often the most cost-effective option. Request a group quote and we will tailor pricing to your team size and format.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the Design for Six Sigma course?

No. This is a practical skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on DFSS tool exercises, case examples and team discussion across the one-day programme rather than a formal test.

Will I get a certificate or a formal credential from this course?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after finishing the programme. This is a non-certification course, so no external credential or awarding body is involved; the value is in the practical DFSS skills you can apply immediately.

How is my learning reinforced during the training?

You apply each DFSS tool as you learn it, working through realistic scenarios: a VOC-to-CTQ flow-down, a QFD House of Quality, a Pugh concept selection matrix and a Design FMEA worksheet. This hands-on practice embeds the method during the day.

Does this course lead to a Green Belt or Black Belt?

No. It is a focused DFSS skills course, not a belt programme. It complements Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt learning by adding the design side of Six Sigma, and pairs well with those courses through Invensis Learning.

Do I need to renew anything after the course?

No. There is no credential to maintain and nothing to renew. The DFSS methodology and tools you learn are immediately applicable and do not expire.

    Course Content

What topics does the Design for Six Sigma course cover?

The course covers the full DMADV roadmap: DFSS foundations, the Define phase (VOC, Kano, project charter), the Measure phase (CTQ flow-down, QFD), the Analyse phase (concept generation, Pugh matrix, Design FMEA), the Design phase (robust design, P-diagram, DFMA) and the Verify phase (verification, validation, design transfer).

What DFSS tools will I learn to use?

You practise Voice of the Customer capture, the Kano model, CTQ flow-down, Quality Function Deployment (the House of Quality), the Pugh concept selection matrix, Design FMEA with RPN, the P-diagram and robust design, and design verification and validation planning.

    Are there hands-on exercises?

Yes. Hands-on exercises run throughout the day. You apply VOC-to-CTQ flow-down, build a QFD House of Quality, complete a Pugh matrix and fill in a Design FMEA worksheet, all on realistic product and process design scenarios.

How long is the training and what is the format?

The course runs for one day (eight hours), and can also be delivered as two half-days totalling eight hours. It is available in classroom, live virtual instructor-led and corporate on-site formats.

Is the course relevant to service and process design, not just products?

Yes. DFSS applies to new products, services and processes alike. The DMADV roadmap and tools such as VOC, QFD and Design FMEA work equally well for designing a service or a manufacturing process as for a physical product.
