What Is the PMP and Why Does It Carry Weight in Norway? The Global Standard for Project Leaders

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is the Project Management Institute's flagship credential, and it validates your ability to lead projects and teams using predictive, agile and hybrid approaches. PMP certification training in Norway with Invensis Learning gives working project leaders a structured, exam-focused route to that credential, taught by accredited trainers who have delivered real projects. The programme is aligned to PMI's current Examination Content Outline, which is built on the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition. You cover all five exam domains: project management fundamentals and core concepts, predictive plan-based methodologies, agile frameworks, business analysis and strategic management, and stakeholder engagement and communication. Across Norway, employers in offshore energy, construction, rail, banking and software increasingly ask for PMI-credentialled delivery leads on large, capital-heavy programmes. If you already lead projects and want that recognised, this is your next step. Start your PMP journey with Invensis Learning.

How to Get PMP Certified in NorwayStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMP certification path in Norway is designed for experienced project managers. You complete the required 35 contact hours, document your project leadership experience, apply to PMI, prepare with mocks and assessments, and schedule your exam through Pearson VUE. Once you pass, you join the global community of 1.2 million+ PMP-certified professionals.

    Step 1: Eligibility Check

Confirm you meet one of PMI's two pathways: a four-year degree with 36 months of project leadership experience, or a secondary degree with 60 months of experience. Both pathways require 35 hours of project management education.

    Step 2: Enroll

Select the learning format that best suits your schedule and goals, including online, instructor-led, and corporate PMP training for teams. Once enrolled, you gain access to courseware, schedules, and a structured study plan to earn the required 35 contact hours.

    Step 3: Attend Classes

Complete live instructor-led sessions or self-paced learning modules included in your PMP training course online or classroom-based program. Participate in case discussions and cover the PMP syllabus across the People, Process, and Business Environment domains, including predictive, agile, and hybrid project management approaches.

Step 4: Document Experience and Apply to PMI

Document your project leadership experience (36 or 60 months, depending on pathway) and submit your PMP application to PMI. Our team supports you with the application process and experience documentation.

    Step 5: Preparation

Use 1,500+ practice questions, 5 full-length PMP mock exams, 1 Agile model exam, flashcards, and the exam simulator to strengthen weak areas and build speed for the 180-question exam.

Step 6: Schedule and Take the Exam

Once your PMI application is approved, schedule your exam at a Pearson VUE test center or take it online, proctored. Take the 230-minute, 180-question PMP exam covering People, Process, and Business Environment.

Step 7: Pass and Get Certified

After passing, you receive your PMP credential and digital badge, valid for three years. Maintain certification with 60 PDUs across the three-year cycle (35 in Education, 25 in Giving Back).

Skills You Will Take Back to Your ProjectsMapped to the Current Exam Domains

The programme builds capability against all five domains of PMI's current Examination Content Outline, which is aligned to the PMBOK Guide Eighth Edition. Expect real tools and techniques you can apply on Monday, not exam trivia.

    Project Fundamentals and Core Concepts

Skills covered in the PMP begin here: project management principles, life cycles, roles, value delivery and ethics, applied across predictive, agile and hybrid environments. You will be able to choose the right delivery approach for a project rather than defaulting to the one you know.

    Predictive, Plan-Based Delivery

Build the plan-driven toolkit that capital projects depend on: charter and stakeholder identification, work breakdown structures, critical path scheduling, resource levelling, cost baselines, integrated change control and earned value management from initiation through to closure.

    Agile and Hybrid Frameworks

Run Scrum, Kanban, Lean and XP practices with confidence, from sprint planning, backlogs, velocity and burndown charts to work-in-progress limits and retrospectives. You will also learn to combine agile and predictive elements in the hybrid programmes Norwegian teams actually deliver.

    Business Analysis and Strategic Alignment

Turn strategy into deliverable work: needs assessment, requirements elicitation, user stories and acceptance criteria, business case development, cost-benefit and option analysis, and benefits tracking through KPIs so the value you promised is the value that lands.

    Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

Identify, analyse and prioritise stakeholders, tailor engagement to power and interest, plan communication channels and cadence, run reporting that leadership trusts, and handle conflict and expectation gaps across virtual and cross-cultural teams.

    Exam Readiness and Application Support

Prepare for the 180-question, 230-minute exam with practice across every question type, including multiple choice, matching, hotspot and fill-in-the-blank. You also get guidance on documenting your project leadership hours for the PMI application.

    What Our Learners Say

Passed First Time and Moved Up

"I had run projects on the Norwegian shelf for nine years without a formal credential. The training turned that experience into structure, especially earned value and risk. I passed on my first attempt and moved into a senior delivery role six months later."

    Henrik Solberg

    Senior Project Manager, Offshore Energy

    0/0

    Hybrid Delivery Finally Made Sense

"The agile and hybrid content was the most useful part for me. We run sprints inside a plan-based programme and I had never seen the two properly reconciled. The trainer had clearly done this work, not just read about it."

    Ingrid Bakken

    IT Project Manager, Financial Services

    0/0

The Application Support Was Worth It

"Solid, well-paced sessions and the mock exams were tougher than I expected, which is exactly what I needed. The help with documenting my project leadership hours for the application saved me a lot of second-guessing."

    Marius Dahl

    Project Manager, Construction

    0/0

    Consistent Delivery Across Two Sites

"We trained a cohort of fourteen delivery leads across two sites. Six months on, our status reporting is consistent, escalations reach us earlier, and steering group meetings are noticeably shorter. The scheduling worked around our project milestones."

    Kristin Aune

Head of PMO, Engineering and Infrastructure

    0/0

Ran Smoothly for a Distributed Team

"As an L and D lead I needed a provider who could run live online sessions for a distributed team without losing engagement. The trainers handled that well, and the cohort reporting gave me something concrete to show leadership."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Yes, for experienced project professionals it is one of the clearest career levers available. Project managers in Norway average around kr 820,000 a year, while senior project managers average about kr 1,011,000, and PMI's global research reports a meaningful pay premium for credential holders. Talk to a learning advisor about your route.

    General

Is the PMP worth it in Norway, and what is the return?

Yes, for experienced project professionals it is one of the clearest career levers available. Project managers in Norway average around kr 820,000 a year, while senior project managers average about kr 1,011,000, and PMI's global research reports a meaningful pay premium for credential holders. Talk to a learning advisor about your route.

What is the Project Management Professional certification?

The Project Management Professional (PMP) is the Project Management Institute's flagship credential, validating your ability to lead projects and teams using predictive, agile and hybrid approaches. It is recognised in over 200 countries and is widely regarded as the global standard for project managers.

    Who should take this course?

It suits experienced project managers, team leads and functional managers who already direct project work and want it formally recognised. It also fits professionals in hybrid or agile environments, and consultants whose clients or procurement processes ask for PMI credentials.

How long does the certification stay valid?

Three years from the date you are certified. To renew, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area of PMI's Talent Triangle: Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen.

Which employers in Norway value this credential?

Energy and offshore companies, engineering and construction firms, rail and infrastructure bodies, banks, and IT consultancies all hire credentialled delivery leads. Demand is strongest where programmes are long, capital-heavy and governed, which describes most of Norway's current project pipeline.

How does the credential differ from PMI-ACP?

PMI-ACP is agile-specific and covers multiple agile frameworks in depth. The PMP is broader and more senior, covering predictive, agile and hybrid delivery together. Many professionals hold both, and the two complement each other in agile-heavy roles.

    Pricing

What is included in the training fee?

Your fee covers instructor-led sessions, PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams and exam simulator access, downloadable templates, guidance on the PMI application, and post-training learner support. Training prices in Norwegian kroner are available on request, so request a quote for your preferred format.

Is the PMI exam fee part of the course price?

No. PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD and charges a lower rate to PMI members than non-members. Fees change from time to time, so confirm the current amount on pmi.org before you apply.

Does PMI membership reduce the cost?

Yes. PMI membership carries an annual fee but reduces the exam fee, the reexamination fee and the renewal fee, and gives you free access to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and the Agile Practice Guide. Check current membership and exam pricing on pmi.org.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing in Norway?

Yes. We offer group pricing for teams, with customised schedules and onsite or live online delivery across Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim. Ask about corporate pricing and we will build a quote around your cohort size.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the arrangement that suits you.

    Exam

What happens if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window, and a reexamination fee applies to the second and third attempts. Our mock exams, simulator and trainer support are designed to get you ready before you book, and you can revisit the material if you need another run at it.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 180 questions and runs for 230 minutes, which is 3 hours and 50 minutes including two scheduled 10-minute breaks. It is closed book and uses multiple choice with single and multiple answers, matching, hotspot and limited fill-in-the-blank questions.

Which domains does the exam cover and how are they weighted?

Five domains, per PMI's current Examination Content Outline: Project Management Fundamentals and Core Concepts (15%), Predictive Plan-Based Methodologies (28%), Agile Frameworks and Methodologies (27%), Business Analysis and Strategic Management (18%), and Stakeholder Engagement and Communication (12%).

    What is the passing score?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage. The pass mark is set through psychometric analysis, and your result is reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Aim for broad competence across all five domains.

Where can I sit the exam in Norway?

You can take it online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctored system from home or the office, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through Pearson VUE or the PMI portal once your application is approved.

Which standard is the exam based on?

PMI's current Examination Content Outline, which is aligned to the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition and also draws on the Agile Practice Guide. Our courseware follows that same outline, so what you study is what you are tested on.

    Course Content

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

You can attend the training at any stage, and it is designed to be followed by anyone leading project work. To sit the exam, PMI requires either a four-year degree plus 36 months of leading projects, or a secondary diploma plus 60 months, and 35 contact hours of project management education in both cases.

What topics does the training cover?

All five exam domains: project management fundamentals, predictive plan-based methodologies including scheduling and earned value, agile frameworks such as Scrum and Kanban, business analysis and strategic management, and stakeholder engagement and communication.

Does the course cover agile as well as waterfall?

Yes, and substantially. The current outline gives agile frameworks their own domain worth 27% of the exam, alongside a 28% predictive domain. You will work through Scrum, Kanban, Lean and XP practices and learn to combine them with plan-based delivery in hybrid programmes.

How many training hours does the programme provide?

The instructor-led programme runs to 32 hours, typically delivered as four full days, six shorter days or eight half-days. PMI requires 35 contact hours of project management education, so we provide supplementary study material to close the remaining hours.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. You get practice questions aligned to the 180-question multi-format exam, full-length mock exams, an exam simulator and topic-wise quizzes, so you can find your weak domains before exam day rather than during it.

    Enrollment

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol online and join an upcoming cohort, choosing live online, classroom or corporate group delivery. Pick your format, complete payment, and you get schedules, courseware and resources straight away. See upcoming batches or talk to a learning advisor about the right start date.

Is training available online across Norway?

Yes. Online (live virtual) instructor-led training runs in real time with an accredited trainer, so learners in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim or anywhere else in the country attend the same sessions without travelling.

What is the PMI application process?

Create a PMI account, document your education and project leadership experience, and submit the application online. PMI typically reviews non-audited applications within about five business days. If you are selected for an audit, you have 90 days to supply supporting documents.

Can I reschedule or move to a different batch?

Yes. You can reschedule or transfer to another cohort, and selected plans let you attend the training a second time. Contact learner support and we will arrange it.

What is the refund and cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations follow our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back option. Contact our team before you book if you want the specific terms for your chosen format confirmed in writing.
