How to Get Agile PM Certified in South AfricaStep-by-Step Certification Process

The path to Online Agile PM certification follows a structured two-exam route. There are no prerequisites for the Foundation examination. After completing the combined Foundation and Practitioner training, candidates progress through both certification exams to demonstrate their knowledge of Agile Project Management principles and practices. Most learners complete the process within 1 to 2 weeks after training.

Step 1: Complete the Agile PM Foundation and Practitioner Training

Enrol in the Invensis Learning Agile PM Foundation and Practitioner Certification training in South Africa (5-Day Live Online Bootcamp, E-Learning, or Corporate Group Training). The integrated programme covers the Agile PM lifecycle, roles and responsibilities, project control, requirements, estimating, and risk management.

Step 2: Sit the Agile PM Foundation Exam

Take the Foundation exam: 50 multiple-choice questions, 40 minutes, 50% pass mark (25 of 50), closed book. Delivered online proctored from your home or office in South Africa, or at an approved test centre.

Step 3: Earn the Agile PM Foundation Credential

On passing the Foundation exam, your Agile PM Foundation certificate is issued. The Foundation credential validates your knowledge of Agile project management fundamentals.

Step 4: Sit the Agile PM Practitioner Exam

Take the Practitioner exam: 4 objective-test questions, 2.5 hours, 50% pass mark (40 of 80 points), open book to the official Agile PM manual. The Practitioner exam is scenario-based and tests applied knowledge in realistic project contexts.

Step 5: Activate Your Agile PM Foundation and Practitioner Credentials

On passing both exams, you earn both the Agile PM Foundation and Practitioner certificates. The Foundation credential is lifetime valid; the Practitioner credential typically has a 5-year validity, renewable via continuing professional development (CPD) or re-examination.

Step 6: Maintain Your Practitioner Credential

Maintain your Agile PM Practitioner credential by earning CPD points each year or by re-sitting the Practitioner exam before the 5-year validity expires. Foundation does not require renewal.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner is a combined agile project management credential based on DSDM. It validates both your knowledge of the framework at Foundation level and your ability to apply and tailor it on real projects at Practitioner level. It is governed by the Agile Business Consortium and recognised in over 150 countries.

    General

What is the AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner certification?

AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner is a combined agile project management credential based on DSDM. It validates both your knowledge of the framework at Foundation level and your ability to apply and tailor it on real projects at Practitioner level. It is governed by the Agile Business Consortium and recognised in over 150 countries.

Who should take AgilePM training in South Africa?

It suits project managers, business analysts, delivery leads, scrum masters and team members who want to run agile projects within a governance framework. It is popular across South Africa's banking, telecoms, IT services and public-sector projects that need agile speed with control.

Is AgilePM certification worth it for my career?

Yes. AgilePM proves you can deliver agile projects with governance, a skill in short supply in South Africa's digital job market. Agile project managers here average around R626,000 a year, rising well beyond R1 million at senior delivery and programme level.

What is the difference between Foundation and Practitioner?

Foundation tests your knowledge and understanding of the AgilePM framework. Practitioner tests your ability to apply and tailor it to real project scenarios in an open-book exam. The combined programme covers both levels and leads to two separate certificates.

How is AgilePM different from Scrum?

Scrum is a team-level delivery framework. AgilePM is a project-level governance framework covering the full lifecycle, from strategic alignment to benefit realisation, with defined business, technical and management roles. AgilePM provides the governance wrapper around agile delivery.

    Pricing

How much does AgilePM training cost in South Africa?

AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner training fees vary by format and schedule. Pricing for live virtual and corporate options is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for a quote tailored to your needs and to ask about group pricing.

What is included in the course fee?

The training typically includes trainer-led sessions, courseware aligned to the current exam syllabi, practice questions, mock exams for both levels, case studies and learner support. Exam voucher inclusion varies by package, so confirm the details when you enrol.

Are the exam fees included in the training price?

Exam voucher inclusion depends on the package you choose. Some packages bundle the Foundation and Practitioner exam vouchers, while others price them separately. Confirm the current inclusions with a learning advisor before you enrol.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for delivery teams, PMOs and business units across South Africa. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the AgilePM Foundation exam?

The Foundation exam is closed book, with 50 multiple-choice questions in 40 minutes. The pass mark is 50%, meaning 25 out of 50 correct. It is usually taken at the end of the Foundation part of the course, via online proctoring or an authorised test centre.

What is the format of the AgilePM Practitioner exam?

The Practitioner exam is open book, with the AgilePM Handbook permitted. It has 4 scenario-based questions worth 15 marks each, 60 marks in total, over 2 hours. The pass mark is 50%, meaning 30 out of 60 marks.

How many exams are in the combined programme?

Two separate exams. You sit the Foundation exam first, then the Practitioner exam. You must pass both to hold both credentials. The 5-day combined programme prepares you for each.

What standard are the AgilePM exams based on?

Both exams are based on the current AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner exam syllabi, aligned to the current edition of the AgilePM Handbook published by the Agile Business Consortium, formerly the DSDM Consortium.

What does open book mean for the Practitioner exam?

The AgilePM Handbook is permitted during the Practitioner exam. However, the scenario questions require analysis and judgment, so you cannot simply look up answers. Deep method knowledge and efficient handbook navigation are both essential.

Are there prerequisites to sit the exams?

Foundation has no formal prerequisites and is open to all. Practitioner requires you to hold AgilePM Foundation, or an accepted equivalent. The combined course is designed so you take Foundation first, then progress to Practitioner.

    Course Content

What topics does the AgilePM course cover?

The course covers the eight AgilePM principles, the six-phase lifecycle and management products, the business, technical and management roles, MoSCoW prioritisation, timeboxing, and planning, control and risk. Practitioner adds applying and tailoring these to scenarios.

Will a beginner cope with this course?

Yes. Foundation assumes no prior AgilePM knowledge and builds concepts from the ground up. Trainer-led sessions, examples and practice questions support newcomers, while the Practitioner content develops applied skill for those ready to progress.

    What learning materials are provided?

You receive courseware aligned to the current exam syllabi, industry case studies, practice questions and mock exams for both Foundation and Practitioner, plus reference to the AgilePM Handbook used in the open-book Practitioner exam.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest AgilePM syllabus?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner exam syllabi and the current edition of the AgilePM Handbook from the Agile Business Consortium.

How long is the combined training?

The combined AgilePM Foundation and Practitioner programme runs for around 40 hours, typically delivered as a 5-day intensive or spread across more days in a part-time format, depending on the schedule you choose.

How soon can I start and how do I enrol?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you receive access to schedules, courseware and resources. Contact a learning advisor to see upcoming batches for South Africa.
