Why Observability Skills Are in Demand in Armenia

    Scaling R&D Centre Complexity

Global R&D centres such as NVIDIA, Synopsys and EPAM run sprawling microservices in Yerevan. Teams need observability to trace failures across services that traditional monitoring cannot explain.

    OBSF builds the three-pillars foundation

    AI Infrastructure at Scale

Firebird's NVIDIA Blackwell GPU datacentre and rising AI workloads generate enormous telemetry volumes, demanding metrics, logs and traces that are collected, sampled and correlated at scale.

    OBSF builds telemetry-pipeline skills

    Always-On Fintech and iGaming

Armenia's digital banks and gaming platforms cannot afford downtime. Observability lets teams detect and resolve issues before performance problems start eating into revenue.

OBSF builds SLO and reliability skills

    From Monitoring to Observability

Many Armenian teams still rely on legacy dashboards and alerts. The shift to true observability and to OpenTelemetry as the instrumentation standard needs certified, up-to-date skills.

    OBSF builds OpenTelemetry fluency

    SRE and Observability Talent Gap

Armenia has a deep developer pool but few credentialed observability and SRE engineers. A recognised foundation credential helps professionals and employers close that gap fast.

OBSF makes certified engineers stand out

    Telemetry Cost and Data Sprawl

High-cardinality data drives spiralling costs. Teams need SLO-driven alerting and smart sampling to keep observability affordable without losing the signal that matters.

    OBSF builds cost-aware pipeline skills

The Observability Skills You Will BuildMetrics, Logs, Traces and Reliability

This Observability Foundation programme builds practical, job-ready capability across the full observability lifecycle. By the end, you can instrument systems, define reliability targets and diagnose incidents in modern, distributed environments.

Master the Three Pillars of Observability

You will learn what observability is, how it differs from traditional monitoring, and how the three pillars, metrics, logs and distributed traces, work together to reveal the internal state of complex systems and the failures you did not predict.

    Instrument Systems with OpenTelemetry

Use OpenTelemetry SDKs, collectors and semantic conventions to instrument services, then build telemetry pipelines that aggregate, transform and route data using head-based, tail-based and dynamic sampling.

Design SLIs, SLOs and Error Budgets

Define service-level indicators that matter to users, set meaningful service-level objectives, and use error budgets to balance reliability against delivery velocity across your services.

    Correlate Telemetry for Root-Cause Analysis

Bring metrics, logs and distributed traces together to trace requests end to end, pinpoint failures across microservices, and cut the time it takes to find and fix the real cause of an incident.

Build Modern Alerting and Incident Response

Move from alert-on-symptom to burn-rate alerting, design on-call rotations that reduce alert fatigue, and run blameless postmortems and retrospectives that turn incidents into learning.

Apply Observability in SRE and AIOps

Understand observability's role in mature SRE practice, explore AIOps and anomaly detection, and prepare for the 40-question, 60-minute open-book OBSF exam with confidence.

It suits DevOps engineers, SREs, platform engineers, developers, IT operations staff and technical leads.

Yes. Armenia's technology sector, from global R&D centres and unicorns to fintech and gaming platforms, runs complex distributed systems that need engineers skilled in observability. A recognised credential helps you stand out for in-demand DevOps, SRE and platform roles where senior pay is rising.

The certification is offered by the DevOps Institute, a global professional membership body, with exams delivered through PeopleCert. Invensis Learning is a PeopleCert (DevOps Institute) Authorised Training Provider delivering training aligned to the official exam blueprint.

There are no formal prerequisites. The certification is open to all, though familiarity with DevOps concepts or IT operations is helpful. This makes it an ideal first step for professionals moving into observability, SRE or platform engineering.

The credential is valid for three years. Renewal is required every three years by earning Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through DevOps Institute membership and continuing education activities.

    Exam

What is the format of the Observability Foundation exam?

The OBSF exam is an open-book, single-answer multiple-choice paper based on the DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint. It is delivered online through PeopleCert OnVUE proctoring or at an authorised test centre.

How many questions are on the exam and how long is it?

The exam has 40 multiple-choice questions and a duration of 60 minutes (one hour). It is open book, so you can reference approved materials during the paper.

What is the passing score for the OBSF exam?

The pass mark is 65%, which means answering at least 26 of the 40 questions correctly. Focus on broad understanding across all six topic modules rather than any single area.

What topics does the exam cover?

The exam covers observability principles and the three pillars (metrics, logs and traces), metrics, logs and distributed tracing, SLIs, SLOs, SLAs and error budgets, OpenTelemetry and telemetry pipelines, alerting and incident response, and SRE and AIOps, aligned to the current DevOps Institute blueprint.

What if I do not pass the exam on the first attempt?

You can re-sit the exam under the DevOps Institute re-examination policy. Our mock exams, practice questions and trainer guidance are designed to build first-attempt readiness, and we support you through preparation and rebooking.

    Course Content

What will I learn in the Observability Foundation course?

You will learn to master the three pillars of observability, instrument systems with OpenTelemetry, design SLIs, SLOs and error budgets, correlate telemetry for root-cause analysis, build modern alerting and incident response, and apply observability in SRE and AIOps.

How is the training structured and how long is it?

The programme runs for 16 hours, delivered as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule. It covers all six modules of the Observability Foundation body of knowledge and prepares you for the 40-question exam.

Do I need prior experience to take this course?

No prior experience is required, as there are no formal prerequisites. A basic familiarity with DevOps or IT operations makes the content easier to absorb, but the course is designed to be accessible to newcomers to observability.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and mock exams aligned to the 40-question, 60-minute, open-book format, helping you identify weak areas and build confidence before exam day.

Is the courseware aligned with the latest blueprint?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current DevOps Institute Observability Foundation Exam Blueprint (Body of Knowledge), covering the three pillars, OpenTelemetry, SLIs, SLOs and modern reliability practice.
