What Is Quality Function Deployment?UntitledA Customer-Driven Design Method

Quality Function Deployment (QFD) is a structured, customer-driven methodology that translates the Voice of the Customer into specific engineering and design characteristics at every stage of product and service development. Developed in Japan by Yoji Akao and Shigeru Mizuno and first applied at the Kobe Shipyard, QFD is built around the House of Quality, a planning matrix that connects what customers want to how a product is designed. This Quality Function Deployment training in Botswana is a one-day, practical programme for product designers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma practitioners. You learn to capture and structure customer requirements, build and interpret the House of Quality, prioritise design decisions, and cascade requirements from product planning through to production. As Botswana diversifies beyond raw mineral exports into diamond beneficiation, food and beverage manufacturing and consumer goods, employers increasingly need people who can design products around genuine customer needs. Build these skills with Invensis Learning and start applying QFD to your own products and services straight away.

Why QFD Skills Pay off at WorkFor Professionals and Teams

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

QFD training helps product and quality professionals turn customer requirements into design decisions that stick. The one-day programme suits product designers, quality engineers, product managers, R&D professionals and Six Sigma Green and Black Belts. Whether you are launching a new product, improving an existing one, or bringing structure to a beneficiation or manufacturing line, you gain a repeatable method for designing quality in from the start.

If you want to move from intuition-based design to customer-driven, traceable design specifications, QFD is a practical, immediately usable skill. You leave able to run a Voice of the Customer session and build a House of Quality for your own product or service.

    • Translate the Voice of the Customer into clear, measurable design requirements
    • Build and interpret the House of Quality with confidence
    • Prioritise design effort on the features that matter most to customers
    • Spot and resolve design conflicts before they reach expensive prototyping
    • Cut costly late design changes and reduce product launch risk
    • Apply QFD within Design for Six Sigma and DMAIC projects
    • Stand out for product design and quality roles across Botswana's manufacturers
    • Take practical skills back to work from day one, no exam required
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

QFD group training helps organisations design better products by giving product, engineering and quality teams a shared, structured method. The training can be delivered for design teams, quality functions or whole product development groups. For organisations moving into beneficiation, manufacturing or new product development, QFD provides a scalable, practical way to build design-quality capability in-house.

If your teams struggle to turn customer feedback into products people actually want, QFD group training creates a common House of Quality language. Cross-functional teams gain a standardised approach to capturing requirements, setting targets and resolving design trade-offs.

    • Builds a shared, customer-driven design language across product and quality teams
    • Reduces design iterations and speeds up time to market
    • Connects customer requirements to engineering, parts and process decisions
    • Lowers warranty and rework costs by designing quality in early
    • Aligns cross-functional teams around a single House of Quality
    • Supports beneficiation, manufacturing and new product development capability
    • Delivered onsite or live virtual for whole teams
    • Teams practise on one of your own real products during the workshop

What Is Driving Demand for QFD Skills in Botswana

    Moving Beyond Raw Diamond Exports

Botswana is building a diamond cutting, polishing and jewellery industry rather than exporting rough stones, which demands products and processes designed to precise customer and market requirements.

    QFD builds customer-driven design skills

    Diversifying the Economy

As the economy diversifies into food, beverage and consumer goods manufacturing, local producers must design products customers genuinely want, not what teams assume they want.

QFD links customer needs to design

    Reducing Product Launch Risk

New products often fail because design is based on assumption. A structured Voice of the Customer method links customer needs to design decisions and cuts costly late changes.

    QFD closes the customer-to-design gap

    Scarce Design-Quality Skills

Botswana's talent pool is strong in operations but thin in structured, customer-driven design methods, so professionals who can run QFD and the House of Quality stand out.

QFD makes your skills stand out

The QFD Skills You Will BuildPractical, Hands-On and Applicable

This one-day programme builds the practical skills to run Quality Function Deployment end to end. By the close, you can capture customer requirements, build the House of Quality, and cascade them through to production.

Capturing the Voice of the Customer

In Quality Function Deployment you learn to gather and structure customer requirements using interviews, observation, surveys and complaints, then organise them with an affinity diagram and classify them with the Kano model into must-be, performance and delighter needs.

    Building the House of Quality

Construct the House of Quality step by step: customer requirements, measurable engineering characteristics, the relationship matrix, competitive benchmarking and engineering targets, so customer priorities drive every design decision.

    Prioritising Engineering Characteristics

Calculate absolute and relative technical importance from the relationship matrix to find the vital few characteristics that drive customer satisfaction, and set defensible engineering targets.

    Resolving Design Trade-Offs

Use the correlation roof to spot where improving one characteristic harms another, locate design hot spots early, and resolve conflicts before they reach expensive prototyping.

    Cascading QFD Across Four Phases

Cascade requirements from product planning through parts deployment, process planning and production planning, keeping a traceable link from every customer need to a production control.

Applying QFD in Six Sigma and Services

Apply QFD within Design for Six Sigma (DMADV Measure) and DMAIC (Define), and extend it to service, healthcare and software design where customer requirements must become delivery standards.
