    General

What is the Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt certification?

The Yellow Belt is an entry-level Lean Six Sigma credential that validates a foundational understanding of the DMAIC method and basic Lean tools. Awarded by IASSC, it confirms you can support process improvement projects as a contributing team member. No prior experience is required.

Is the Yellow Belt worth it for professionals in Hamilton?

Yes. Hamilton and the wider Waikato run on dairy, food manufacturing, healthcare and public services, all sectors that value process improvement skills. Certified professionals often report a 12 to 15 per cent pay premium, and the Yellow Belt is a recognised first step into quality and continuous improvement roles.

    Who should take this course?

The course suits entry-level quality and process staff, frontline team members, supervisors who support improvement work, and anyone planning to progress towards Green Belt. It is a practical first credential for professionals in any sector that is new to Lean Six Sigma.

Do I need any prerequisites to enrol?

No. IASSC sets no prerequisites for the Yellow Belt, so no degree, work experience or prior training is required. Training is recommended to prepare for the exam but is not mandatory, which makes this an accessible entry point.

How does the Yellow Belt compare to the Green Belt?

The Yellow Belt is the foundational, awareness-level credential, while the Green Belt is the next, intermediate level for those who lead smaller improvement projects. The Yellow Belt exam has 60 questions; the Green Belt has 100. Many learners start with Yellow Belt and progress from there.

    Is the certification recognised globally?

Yes. The Yellow Belt is awarded by the International Association for Six Sigma Certification (IASSC), now part of PeopleCert, and is an independent, globally recognised validation of your Lean Six Sigma knowledge across industries and regions.

    Pricing

What is included in the training fee?

The fee includes IASSC-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock tests, trainer-led sessions, learner support and a course completion certificate. The IASSC exam voucher is purchased separately. For a tailored figure, request a quote from a learning advisor.

How much does Yellow Belt training cost in Hamilton?

Training fees vary by format and are quoted locally in New Zealand dollars, so the price is available on request. Live online, classroom and corporate options are priced differently. Talk to a learning advisor for a quote that fits your needs.

Is the exam fee included in the course price?

No. The IASSC exam voucher is purchased separately through orders.iassc.org. The base reference price is USD 295 and varies by location and region, billed in USD rather than included in the local training fee.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments across the Waikato. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment methods are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the Yellow Belt exam?

The IASSC Yellow Belt exam has 60 questions in closed-book, multiple-choice and true or false format. You can sit it through online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Some exam forms include up to six additional unscored questions.

What score do I need to pass?

You need a minimum of 230 points out of 300 to pass. Questions are spread across the five DMAIC phases, with roughly equal weighting, so broad understanding across all phases is the best way to prepare.

How long is the exam and how is it delivered?

The exam is allotted two hours. It is delivered either online through the IASSC on-demand proctored system, available around the clock, or at a Pearson VUE test centre. You choose the delivery mode when you purchase your voucher.

How long is the certification valid?

The Yellow Belt holds Current status for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you pass the IASSC recertification exam before the elapse date, or within 90 days after it.

What if I do not pass the first time?

You can retake the IASSC exam by purchasing another voucher. Our training includes practice questions and mock tests modelled on the real exam to help you build readiness and approach a resit with confidence.

What topics does the Yellow Belt course cover?

The course covers all five DMAIC phases, Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control, at a foundational level. It also introduces core Lean tools, basic Six Sigma statistics, and quality metrics such as DPMO, DPU and cost of poor quality.

Can a complete beginner take this course?

Yes. The Yellow Belt is designed for beginners and needs no prior Lean Six Sigma knowledge or experience. The training keeps concepts practical and works through them step by step, with trainer support throughout.

Yes. Your enrolment includes practice questions, mock tests, downloadable study materials and topic-wise exercises aligned to the 60-question exam, so you can identify weak areas and revise effectively.
