What is the format of the PRINCE2 Foundation exam?

The Foundation exam is closed book with 60 multiple-choice, single-answer questions to complete in 60 minutes. The pass mark is 60%, which is 36 out of 60 correct. There are no formal prerequisites to sit Foundation.

What is the format of the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam?

The Practitioner exam is open book, with 56 questions and sub-questions worth 70 marks, over 150 minutes. It is scenario based, the pass mark is 60% (42 of 70 marks), and the PRINCE2 Managing Successful Projects manual is permitted during the exam.

Do I need to pass Foundation before taking Practitioner?

Yes. PRINCE2 Foundation is the prerequisite for Practitioner. In the combined programme you sit Foundation first, then Practitioner, and must pass both separate exams to hold both credentials. Certain equivalents such as PMP or CAPM are also accepted for Practitioner entry.

Where can I take the PRINCE2 exams?

Both exams are delivered through PeopleCert, either online with 24/7 remote proctoring or at an authorised test centre. Exams are usually arranged through the accredited training package, so you can schedule them when your preparation is complete.

What happens if I do not pass an exam the first time?

You can re-sit a PeopleCert exam; re-sit fees and policies are set by PeopleCert, so confirm current terms at peoplecert.org. Our training includes structured practice and mock exams to help you prepare well and reduce the chance of a re-sit. Talk to an advisor about prep support.
