What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO). It uses single-answer and multiple-answer questions delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book, so preparation across all four ECO domains is important.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The exam covers four domains per the ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). The heavy contracts weighting reflects how central contract administration is to construction delivery.

What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced modules and meet one of three experience and education sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. Each set needs 35 contact hours of PM education.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Reexamination fees apply to later attempts. Our mock exams and trainer support are designed to build your readiness across every domain before you sit.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

You can join the training at any stage, and it is well suited to construction professionals moving into project management. To sit the PMI-CP exam, however, you must meet PMI's construction experience and education requirements and complete the four prerequisite modules.

What learning resources are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PMI-CP ECO and Handbook, practice questions, mock exams, and guidance on completing the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application. Materials are structured for step-by-step, exam-focused learning.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PMI-CP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, plus construction industry standards, so you study the material the exam actually tests.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid and how do I renew it?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle. The 56 PDUs from the four prerequisite modules can be applied toward renewal.
