How to Get PfMP Certified in Port Of SpainStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PfMP certification path in Port Of Spain is the most senior on the PMI credential ladder. It centres on PMI's peer-panel review of your portfolio management experience, followed by a 170-question, 240-minute scenario-based exam administered through Pearson VUE. From initial application to exam day typically takes 3-6 months, including the panel-review evaluation window.

    Step 1: Confirm PfMP Eligibility

Verify you meet one of the three eligibility sets (Set A / Set B / Set C) , secondary diploma OR bachelor's degree OR GAC-accredited bachelor's, plus 96 months of professional business experience plus 84/48/36 months of portfolio management experience within the past 15 years.

Step 2: Enrol in PfMP Training

Choose your preferred Invensis Learning PfMP cohort (3-Day Live Online Bootcamp, E-Learning, or Corporate Group Training). On enrolment you receive PMI-aligned PfMP courseware, panel-submission templates, and scenario mock-exam material.

Step 3: Document Portfolio Management Experience for Panel Review

Compile your portfolio management experience submission to PMI's evaluation standard: roles held, portfolios led, governance forums chaired, value realised. Invensis Learning's submission templates and reviewer feedback help you avoid the common rejection patterns PMI flags.

Step 4: Submit the PfMP Application to PMI

Submit your application via the PMI candidate portal. PMI performs an initial review, then forwards the experience submission to the peer panel for evaluation. The panel-review window typically runs 60-90 days. Pay the PfMP application/exam fee: ~$800 (PMI member) or ~$1,000 (non-member).

Step 5: Prepare for the Examination

Strengthen your readiness through structured PfMP exam prep training, mock examinations, scenario-based exercises, portfolio governance case studies, and focused revision plans. This preparation helps build confidence for the examination and reinforces key portfolio management concepts.

Step 6: Earn the PfMP Credential and Plan CCR Renewal

On passing, PMI issues your PfMP digital badge and certificate. The credential is valid for three years; renew via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning 60 PDUs across the 3-year cycle in portfolio-relevant content.

It suits portfolio managers, PMO heads, directors of delivery and senior practitioners with substantial portfolio experience.

    General

What is the PfMP certification and who is it for?

The Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) is PMI's most senior portfolio management credential, for professionals who align portfolios of programmes and projects to organisational strategy. It suits portfolio managers, PMO heads, directors of delivery and senior practitioners with substantial portfolio experience.

Is the PfMP worth it for professionals in Port of Spain?

Yes. PfMP is a globally recognised marker of portfolio leadership valued by energy, banking, state-enterprise and consulting employers in Trinidad and Tobago. It positions you for senior roles such as Portfolio Manager, Head of PMO and PMO Director, where local salary bands are strong. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your route.

Which standard and body govern the PfMP?

PfMP is governed by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The exam is based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and PMI's Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition, and assesses five performance domains.

Do I need a PMP or PgMP before the PfMP?

No. Neither PMP nor PgMP is a prerequisite for PfMP. Eligibility is based on general business experience and portfolio management experience, though many senior portfolio managers do hold one or both credentials.

How long is the PfMP valid and how is it renewed?

PfMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements cycle.

    Pricing

How much does PfMP training cost in Port of Spain?

Instructor-led PfMP training fees vary by format and schedule, and local pricing in Trinidad and Tobago dollars is available on request. The PMI exam fee is billed separately in USD and is not part of the training fee. Request a quote for current batch pricing.

What is included in the PfMP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, exam simulator access, downloadable templates, application and panel-review support, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

How much is the PfMP exam fee?

PMI individual membership (about USD 139 per year) lowers the exam fee and gives free access to the Standard for Portfolio Management. Confirm current fees on the PMI store before applying.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for PMOs, business units and leadership teams across Trinidad and Tobago. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

What payment methods and instalment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PfMP exam?

The PfMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PfMP Examination Content Outline and the Standard for Portfolio Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains: Strategic Alignment, Governance, Portfolio Performance, Portfolio Risk Management and Communications Management.

How many questions are on the PfMP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What is the passing score for the PfMP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. Results are determined through psychometric analysis and reported with domain-level feedback, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains rather than a single number.

What is the PfMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PfMP. A panel of portfolio management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is mandatory in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

What happens if I do not pass, can I retake the exam?

Yes. PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to the second and third attempts; confirm current amounts on the PMI store.

Can I take this course if I am stepping up from programme management?
