Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI-CP is PMI's specialist credential for construction. It covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction PMs, project engineers, owner's reps and consultants.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI-CP is PMI's specialist credential for construction. It covers four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). It suits construction PMs, project engineers, owner's reps and consultants.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in San Antonio?

Yes. San Antonio's construction starts are forecast near USD 12.6 billion in 2026 across data centers, healthcare and defense, and employers are hiring proven construction leaders. Construction Project Manager roles here average around USD 110,000, with senior and director bands well above that, so a recognized construction credential can strengthen both your prospects and your pay.

Is the PMI-CP recognized in San Antonio and internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by contractors and owners in San Antonio and by international construction employers who want a globally recognized project management credential.

Do I need a PMP before taking the PMI-CP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary, so many construction professionals hold both, but the PMI-CP stands on its own.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) within each three-year cycle through PMI's continuing certification requirements program, with at least 8 PDUs in each Talent Triangle area.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions mapped to the exam, mock assessments, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Speak with a learning advisor for a full inclusions list and a quote.

How much does the PMI-CP exam cost?

PMI bills the exam fee separately from training, in USD. As a guide, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, though fees can change, so confirm current amounts on pmi.org before you apply.

Does PMI membership reduce the exam cost?

Yes. PMI members pay a lower exam fee than non-members, and membership also provides access to PMI resources and the PMBOK Guide. Annual individual membership is around USD 139, so many candidates find it offsets much of the fee difference.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing for teams in San Antonio?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for project teams, PMOs and leadership groups. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organization.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer installment options on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a time limit of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains per the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is the largest, reflecting how central contracts are to construction delivery.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is set through psychometric analysis, and performance is reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

What if I do not pass on the first attempt?

You are permitted up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. A reexamination fee applies to the second and third attempts. Our practice questions and mock assessments are designed to help you prepare thoroughly for your first sitting.

Where can I take the PMI-CP exam?

You can take the exam online through Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test center, including centers in and around San Antonio. Scheduling is done through Pearson VUE or the PMI portal after your application is approved.

    Course Content

What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP?

The PMI-CP has two parts. First, complete all four mandatory self-paced course modules. Second, meet one experience set: a high school diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months, each within the last 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

All candidates must complete four self-paced modules before applying: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total that also count toward renewal.

Does this training satisfy the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led program provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 hours PMI requires. Ask us how supplementary self-study or pre-reading can be credited so you meet the full 35 contact hour education requirement before applying.

What will I learn in the PMI-CP training?

You will learn to select and administer construction contracts, manage variations, claims and risk, engage owners, regulators and communities, control scope, schedule and cost, and govern project delivery. The curriculum maps to all four PMI-CP domains and the full construction lifecycle.

Is the courseware aligned to the current standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide 8th Edition, so you prepare against the construction domains and principles the exam actually tests.
