What Is Kanban and How It Streamlines Your WorkflowUntitledA Practical Skill for Every Delivery Team

The Kanban Training in South Africa is a practical, one-day programme that teaches you to use Kanban, a visual pull-based system for managing the flow of work in both manufacturing and knowledge work. Kanban, meaning signboard or visual signal in Japanese, began in the Toyota Production System under Taiichi Ohno and is now a core Lean and Agile method used worldwide. You learn how to make work visible, limit work in progress, and let real demand pull work through each stage, so you cut overproduction, reduce lead times and deliver more predictably. The training covers manufacturing Kanban, including production and withdrawal cards, supermarkets and Just-in-Time pull, and knowledge-work Kanban, including Kanban boards, WIP limits, flow metrics and Scrumban, as formalised for knowledge work by David J. Anderson. Designed for professionals across manufacturing, banking, IT and services, the course needs no prior experience and gives you skills you can apply the very next day. Start building calmer, faster, more visual workflows with Invensis Learning.

The Real-World Payoff of Learning KanbanSkills You Apply from Day One

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Kanban training helps you manage work more calmly and predictably by making it visible and limiting how much is in progress at once. It suits production managers, operations leads, Scrum Masters, and IT and delivery professionals who want smoother flow. Whether you run a manufacturing line, a software backlog or a service queue, you learn practical techniques you can put to work immediately.

If you want to stop firefighting and start delivering steadily, Kanban gives you a simple, powerful system. You gain the confidence to design boards, set sensible limits, and use flow data to improve week after week.

    • Visualise your entire workflow so bottlenecks, delays and hidden work become obvious at a glance
    • Limit work in progress to stop multitasking waste and finish more of what you start
    • Cut lead times and deliver more predictably by using pull instead of push

    Before

Limited visibility of where work actually gets stuck

    Now you have

Clear sight of every bottleneck and blocker on the board

    Before

No shared system for managing and prioritising flow

    Now you have

A common Kanban language your whole team can use

    Before

Constantly reacting to overload and shifting priorities

    Now you have

A pull system that protects capacity and steadies delivery

"The difference between a busy team and a productive one is visible flow, and the organisations that matter already know it."

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Kanban is a visual, pull-based system for managing the flow of work. It uses signals such as cards or board columns to authorise work only when there is capacity, so you limit work in progress, expose bottlenecks and deliver more predictably. It began in the Toyota Production System and is now used in manufacturing and Agile teams alike.

    General

What is Kanban and how does it work?

Kanban is a visual, pull-based system for managing the flow of work. It uses signals such as cards or board columns to authorise work only when there is capacity, so you limit work in progress, expose bottlenecks and deliver more predictably. It began in the Toyota Production System and is now used in manufacturing and Agile teams alike.

Is Kanban training worth it for my career?

Yes. Kanban is a practical, in-demand skill across South Africa's manufacturing, banking, IT and services sectors. Roles such as Scrum Master, Agile coach, production manager and continuous improvement manager all value it, and you can apply what you learn the very next day at work.

Who should attend this Kanban course?

The course suits production and operations managers, Lean coordinators, Scrum Masters, Agile coaches, IT and software delivery managers, project managers and anyone responsible for the flow of work. Both manufacturing and knowledge-work professionals benefit.

Do I need any prior experience to learn Kanban?

No. There are no prerequisites. The course introduces every Kanban concept from first principles, so beginners and experienced practitioners can both follow it. Some familiarity with Lean or production operations is helpful but not required.

Does the training cover both manufacturing and Agile Kanban?

Yes. It covers manufacturing Kanban, including production and withdrawal cards, supermarkets and Just-in-Time pull, and knowledge-work Kanban, including Kanban boards, WIP limits, flow metrics and Scrumban, as formalised for knowledge work by David J. Anderson.

    Pricing

How much does Kanban training cost in South Africa?

Pricing depends on the delivery format, group size and whether you train as an individual or a team. Public and corporate options are available. Contact Invensis Learning for current pricing and to request a quote for your preferred format.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all Kanban modules, hands-on exercises, structured courseware and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Speak to a learning advisor for the exact inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate rates?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for teams and departments. It is ideal when you want a whole team to design Kanban systems for their own workflows. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there any additional or hidden costs?

No. Because this is a non-certification skills course, there is no separate exam or awarding-body fee. Your fee covers the training and its materials, and any optional add-ons are made clear before you enrol.

How do I pay for the training?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options may be available on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the payment option that suits you and to see upcoming batches.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the Kanban course?

No. This is a non-certification skills training course with no exam. Learning is reinforced through hands-on Kanban design exercises, real-world examples and team discussion during the programme rather than a formal test.

What certificate do I receive after the training?

You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after completing the programme. No external credential or awarding body is involved, as the course focuses on building practical, immediately usable Kanban skills.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

Your understanding is developed through practical exercises such as designing Kanban boards, setting WIP limits, sizing pull systems and interpreting flow metrics. These applied activities let you check your skills against realistic scenarios rather than an exam.

Will I be able to apply Kanban straight away?

Yes. By the end of the course you can visualise a workflow, set WIP limits, design manufacturing pull loops, build Agile Kanban boards, measure flow and read a cumulative flow diagram, all skills you can apply immediately at work.

How long does the training take?

The programme runs for one day, about eight hours, and covers all six Kanban modules with hands-on exercises throughout. It can also be arranged as two half-day sessions for teams who prefer a split schedule.

    Course Content

What topics does the Kanban course cover?

The course covers Kanban origins and pull production, manufacturing Kanban types and mechanics, kanban sizing and implementation, knowledge-work Kanban boards and WIP limits, flow metrics and the cumulative flow diagram, and how to implement and sustain Kanban.

What are WIP limits and why do they matter?

Work-in-progress limits cap how many items a stage can hold at once. They stop multitasking waste, prompt teams to finish work before starting more, and make bottlenecks visible. Setting sensible WIP limits is one of the core skills you build in the course.

Does the course explain flow metrics and the cumulative flow diagram?

Yes. You learn to measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, and read the cumulative flow diagram to spot where work is piling up, so you can improve your system with data rather than guesswork.

What is Scrumban and is it covered?

Scrumban blends Kanban's visual flow and WIP limits with Scrum's cadence and ceremonies. The course shows when Scrumban helps and how to run Kanban boards within a Scrum team, so Agile teams can adopt flow-based working.

    What hands-on exercises are included?

How do I enrol in the Kanban training?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete your booking and you will receive access to the schedule, courseware and joining details. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing.

    What training formats are available?

The course is available as online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom training and customised corporate on-site delivery. You can pick the format that best fits your schedule and how your team prefers to learn.

Can you deliver the training on-site for our team in South Africa?

Yes. We deliver on-site and live virtual corporate training for teams across South Africa. It is especially effective as your people can design Kanban systems for their own real workflows during the sessions. Ask about corporate delivery.

    How soon can I start?

New batches run regularly across live virtual and classroom formats, and corporate sessions can be scheduled to suit your team. Contact us to see upcoming dates and to book the option that works for you.

What is your reschedule or cancellation policy?

Rescheduling and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and flexible options are available on selected plans. Reach out to our team and they will confirm the details that apply to your booking.
