Is the CSM exam open book?

Yes. The CSM exam is open book, so you can refer to materials during the online assessment. It is delivered without a proctor through the Scrum Alliance portal within 90 days of course completion.

Which standard is the CSM exam based on?

The CSM exam is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide (November 2020 edition) by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland, together with the Agile Manifesto and its principles.

Can a beginner take the CSM course?

Yes. The CSM course is designed for people new to Scrum as well as those formalising existing knowledge. There are no prerequisites, and the trainer guides you through every concept with practical examples and hands-on activities.

What topics does the CSM training cover?

Training covers all six areas of the CSM Learning Objectives: Scrum theory and principles, the five Scrum values, the Scrum Team, the five Scrum events, the three Scrum artifacts and their commitments, and the Scrum Master role.

Is the courseware aligned to the latest Scrum Guide?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current Scrum Guide (November 2020 edition) and the latest Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives, so you learn the framework exactly as it is examined today.

How long is the CSM training programme?

The CSM programme runs for 16 hours, delivered as two full days or four half-days depending on the schedule. This exceeds the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement for an approved CSM course.
