What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam is closed book with 120 multiple-choice questions (single-answer and multiple-answer). It is delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre, and is based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline.

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The exam has 120 questions and an allotted time of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). Questions are distributed across the four ECO domains.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). The large contracts weighting reflects the centrality of contract administration and dispute management in construction.

What are the PMI-CP prerequisites?

You must complete all four self-paced prerequisite modules, plus one of three experience sets: a secondary diploma with 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree with 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree with 24 months. All require 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score and how many attempts do I get?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score, so no fixed percentage is published; results are reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility window.

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four ECO domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance, spanning contract types, claims, change orders, stakeholder engagement, scope, schedule, risk, quality and governance, plus exam strategy.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours of PM education, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours PMI requires. Check with our team whether supplementary self-study or pre-reading is credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules for PMI-CP?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced modules in any order, each awarding 14 PDUs (56 total): Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. We guide you on completing them.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can enrol in the training to build construction project management knowledge. To sit the PMI-CP exam, however, PMI requires construction project management experience and the four prerequisite modules, as set out in the eligibility criteria.

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and grounded in PMI's PMBOK Guide and construction industry standards, so you prepare against the domains and weights PMI tests today.
