A Practical Introduction to the Six Sigma MethodUntitledQuality Skills for Everyday Work

Six Sigma Awareness Training in Iceland is a one-day, non-certification course that introduces the Six Sigma methodology, the DMAIC improvement roadmap and the quality vocabulary that improvement teams use every day. It gives employees, supervisors and managers enough understanding to contribute to and support Six Sigma projects, without becoming full-time Green Belts or Black Belts. Six Sigma is a data-driven approach to reducing process variation and eliminating defects, built around the well-known target of fewer than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. Developed at Motorola in the 1980s and made famous by GE, it is now applied across seafood processing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aluminium and services. In Iceland, where a small workforce and tight margins put a premium on productivity, a shared quality mindset helps teams do more with less. Over a single interactive day you learn the DMAIC phases (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control), the key concepts of variation, DPMO and CTQ, the Six Sigma roles, and how Lean Six Sigma combines speed with quality. You finish able to speak the language, read improvement reports and support change with confidence. Start your Six Sigma journey with Invensis Learning.

Why Six Sigma Awareness Is Worth Your TimeSkills You Can Apply from Day One

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

Six Sigma awareness training helps you turn everyday frustration with defects, rework and delays into structured, data-driven improvement. In one day you gain the concepts, vocabulary and DMAIC understanding to take part in quality projects rather than watch from the sidelines. Whether you work on a seafood processing line, in a regulated pharmaceutical plant, in a medical device team or in a service function, the training connects Six Sigma thinking to your own work context.

If you want to grow into quality, operations or process improvement roles, this course is a natural first step. You leave with practical awareness you can use immediately and a clear path towards Yellow Belt or Green Belt learning later.

    • Understand Six Sigma and DMAIC well enough to join improvement projects
    • Speak the quality language used in meetings, reports and tollgate reviews
    • Spot waste, variation and defects in your own daily work
    • Support process changes that actually stick over time
    • Build a strong foundation before Yellow Belt or Green Belt study
    • Apply a data-driven, customer-focused mindset in any role or sector
    • Receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Group Six Sigma awareness training gives every employee, from the shop floor to the leadership team, a common understanding of how improvement works. That shared foundation is what makes Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma projects succeed once they begin. Delivered onsite, live virtual or in the classroom, the programme can train large groups at once as the opening step in a quality or operational excellence initiative.

For Icelandic organisations facing tight margins and a small labour pool, a workforce that thinks in terms of variation, defects and customer value is a real competitive advantage. This training builds that mindset quickly and at scale.

    • Build a shared Six Sigma vocabulary across your whole team
    • Prepare staff to support Lean Six Sigma improvement projects
    • Strengthen a culture of data-driven decision making
    • Reduce defects, rework and waste across your processes
    • Standardise quality thinking across sites and departments
    • Flexible onsite, live virtual and classroom delivery for groups
    • Ideal first step in an organisation-wide Six Sigma rollout

Where Six Sigma Skills Take You Across IcelandRoles, Sectors and Demand

Process improvement skills are valued across Iceland's most important sectors, from seafood processing and aquaculture to pharmaceuticals, medical devices and metals. As aquaculture output climbs and manufacturers face tighter margins, employers increasingly want people who understand variation, defects and DMAIC, the foundations that Six Sigma Awareness training builds. Roles range from Quality Analyst and Process Improvement Specialist to Quality, Operations and Production Manager, and here is what the market is telling us right now.

Industry Challenges Driving Demand for Six Sigma Skills

Thin Margins in Aluminium and Metals

Base metals turnover fell nearly 12% and US tariffs squeeze exporters, so aluminium and metals plants must strip out waste and defects to protect already thin margins.

Six Sigma builds waste and defect reduction skills

    Scaling Aquaculture Without Losing Quality

Aquaculture turnover jumped around 89% in early 2026. Rapid growth strains consistency, and teams that understand variation and CTQ keep quality steady as volumes rise.

    Six Sigma builds variation-control awareness

    GMP Rigour in Biosimilar Manufacturing

Iceland's growing biosimilar and medical device makers work under strict GMP rules, where a shared Six Sigma vocabulary helps every employee support tight quality control.

Six Sigma builds a data-driven quality mindset

A Small Labour Market Under Pressure

With unemployment near 3.5%, Icelandic firms must do more with fewer people. Process improvement thinking helps small teams remove waste and lift productivity.

    Six Sigma builds productivity awareness

    Variation That Erodes Export Competitiveness

Seafood and food exporters compete on reliability. Inconsistent processes cause rejects and returns, so awareness of DPMO and defect prevention protects export value.

    Six Sigma builds defect-prevention awareness

    Improvement Projects Without Shared Understanding

Lean Six Sigma projects stall when only a few people speak the language. Awareness training gives whole teams the shared vocabulary these initiatives need to succeed.

Six Sigma awareness is more than a course. It is a shared language that helps teams cut defects and waste. Give your people the foundation to support improvement projects. Start today.

    Your Iceland Quality Transformation

    Where You Stand Today,

And What Six Sigma Awareness Changes

Iceland's employers increasingly separate people who understand process improvement from those who do not, as aquaculture scales and manufacturers chase every efficiency. Here is which side of that line you want to be on.

    Today

You rely on opinion and gut feel to explain problems

    After training

You frame issues with data, variation and DPMO thinking

    Today

Process fixes do not stick and the same problems return

    After training

You understand how the Control phase keeps improvements in place

    Today

Career limited to your current function with no clear next step

    After training

Ready to progress towards Yellow Belt or Green Belt learning

    You complete the training

    Before

You hear DMAIC and CTQ in meetings but cannot follow the detail

    Now you have

A working grasp of Six Sigma language and the DMAIC roadmap

    Before

Improvement work happens around you, not with you

    Now you have

The confidence to contribute to and support improvement projects

    Before

Quality feels like someone else's responsibility

    Now you have

A data-driven, customer-focused mindset you apply every day

    Before

No shared improvement vocabulary across your team

    Now you have

A common Six Sigma foundation that helps projects move faster

"The gap between spotting a problem and solving it with data is a shared quality mindset, and the teams that improve fastest already have one."

The Skills You Will BuildFrom Concepts to Everyday Application

This awareness programme gives you the concepts, vocabulary and DMAIC understanding to take part in Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma improvement work. By the end of the day you can read improvement reports, join project discussions and apply quality thinking in your own role.

    Understand the Six Sigma Approach

What you will learn in Six Sigma Awareness Training begins with the big picture: what Six Sigma is, its Motorola and GE history, the philosophy of reducing variation, and the target of fewer than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. You leave knowing why organisations invest in it.

    Speak the Language of Quality

Get comfortable with the core vocabulary that improvement teams use every day, including defects and defectives, DPMO and sigma level, common and special cause variation, CTQ, Voice of the Customer, and the Y = f(X) relationship between inputs and outputs.

    Follow the DMAIC Roadmap

Walk through all five phases of DMAIC, Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control, so you understand what happens at each step, what the tollgate reviews check, and how the method keeps decisions grounded in data rather than assumptions.

    Recognise Six Sigma Roles

Understand who does what in a Six Sigma programme, from Champions and Master Black Belts to Black Belts, Green Belts and Yellow Belts, and see how each role, including the process owner, contributes to project success and sustained improvement.

Know the Core Tools at an Awareness Level

Gain awareness of the key tools used in improvement projects, including SIPOC, the fishbone diagram, Pareto charts, control charts, measurement system analysis and process capability, so you can follow what is being done and why during a project.

    Connect Lean and Six Sigma

See how Lean Six Sigma combines Lean waste elimination and flow with Six Sigma variation reduction, and how tools like value stream mapping, 5S and Kaizen complement DMAIC, so you can support the combined approach most organisations now use.

Six Sigma Awareness Training is a one-day, non-certification course that introduces the Six Sigma methodology, the DMAIC improvement roadmap, key quality concepts, the Six Sigma roles and Lean Six Sigma. It is designed for employees, managers and leaders who want to understand and support improvement projects.

    General

What is Six Sigma Awareness Training?

Six Sigma Awareness Training is a one-day, non-certification course that introduces the Six Sigma methodology, the DMAIC improvement roadmap, key quality concepts, the Six Sigma roles and Lean Six Sigma. It is designed for employees, managers and leaders who want to understand and support improvement projects.

Who should attend this Six Sigma course in Iceland?

It suits employees, supervisors, managers and leaders in any sector, including seafood processing, aquaculture, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, aluminium and services. Anyone who takes part in or supports Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma improvement work will benefit from the shared understanding it builds.

Is Six Sigma awareness worth it for my career?

Yes. A data-driven quality mindset is valued across Iceland's quality-focused sectors and supports roles from Quality Analyst to Operations Manager. The training also gives you a solid foundation before progressing to Yellow Belt or Green Belt learning. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Do I need prior experience or quality knowledge to attend?

No. There are no prerequisites. The course is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of prior quality or statistical knowledge, so a general audience can follow it comfortably in a single day.

Why is Six Sigma relevant in Iceland right now?

Iceland has a small labour market with unemployment near 3.5%, tight manufacturing margins, and fast-growing aquaculture and pharmaceutical sectors. In that environment, teams that understand variation, defects and DMAIC help organisations lift productivity and protect quality.

    Pricing

How much does Six Sigma Awareness Training cost in Iceland?

Pricing varies by delivery mode, region and group size, so the fee is available on request. Public and corporate options are available. Request a quote and a learning advisor will share the current price for your preferred format.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee covers instructor-led training across all six awareness modules, real-world case study examples, interactive team exercises and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Ask us for the full inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

Yes. We offer group and corporate pricing, which is popular for this course because organisations often train large employee groups at once. Contact us for a tailored quote based on your team size and delivery preference.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you or your organisation.

Is this training good value for a whole team?

Yes. Training a whole team together creates one shared improvement vocabulary quickly, which is what makes Lean Six Sigma projects succeed. The result is fewer defects and less rework across your processes. Ask about corporate and group pricing.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this course?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through interactive discussion, case study examples and team exercises during the one-day programme rather than a formal test.

Do I receive a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after completing the programme. There is no formal external credential, as this is an awareness-level course focused on practical understanding you can apply at work.

Does this course qualify me to lead Six Sigma projects?

No. This is an introductory awareness course, so it does not qualify you to lead or run DMAIC projects. If you want to lead improvement work, progress to Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt, Green Belt or Black Belt training afterwards.

How is learning checked during the day?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, interactive discussions, team exercises and case study examples throughout the day help you apply Six Sigma concepts to your own work context and confirm your understanding as you go.

What will I be able to do after completing the training?

You will understand what Six Sigma is, use its vocabulary in meetings, follow the five DMAIC phases, recognise the Six Sigma roles, take part in project teams and understand Lean Six Sigma as the combined improvement approach.

    Course Content

What topics does the Six Sigma course cover?

The course covers six modules: the history, philosophy and business case for Six Sigma; key concepts and terminology; the DMAIC methodology; Six Sigma roles and organisational structure; an awareness-level look at the tools; and Lean Six Sigma in practice.

    What is DMAIC?

DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control. It is the structured Six Sigma roadmap for improving existing processes, with each phase having its own tools, deliverables and tollgate review to keep decisions grounded in data.

Will I learn Six Sigma tools?

Yes, at an awareness level. You gain enough understanding of SIPOC, the fishbone diagram, Pareto charts, control charts, measurement system analysis and process capability to follow what practitioners do during a project, without practitioner-level depth.

Does the training cover Lean Six Sigma?

Yes. The final module explains Lean Six Sigma, how Lean waste elimination and flow combine with Six Sigma variation reduction, and how Lean tools such as value stream mapping, 5S and Kaizen complement the DMAIC methodology.

How long is the training and what format is it?

The programme runs for one day, totalling eight hours, and covers all six modules with discussion and exercises. It is available in live virtual (online), classroom and onsite corporate formats so you can choose what fits your team.
