Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

Poka Yoke is a Japanese Lean quality technique for mistake-proofing processes so that errors are prevented at source or detected the moment they occur, before they become defects. The one-day training suits quality engineers, manufacturing and process engineers, production supervisors, Lean practitioners and anyone responsible for defect prevention.

    General

What is Poka Yoke and who is the training for?

Poka Yoke is a Japanese Lean quality technique for mistake-proofing processes so that errors are prevented at source or detected the moment they occur, before they become defects. The one-day training suits quality engineers, manufacturing and process engineers, production supervisors, Lean practitioners and anyone responsible for defect prevention.

Is the Poka Yoke training worth it for professionals in Malaysia?

Yes. Mistake-proofing is a practical, portable skill valued across Malaysia's electrical and electronics, semiconductor, automotive and medical device sectors, which compete on quality and yield. It strengthens roles from quality engineer to continuous improvement and production management. Talk to a learning advisor about upcoming batches.

Do I need prior experience to attend?

No. There are no formal prerequisites and the course introduces all Poka Yoke principles from first principles. Some familiarity with quality concepts such as defects, rework and inspection is helpful but not required, so beginners and experienced practitioners are both welcome.

Which standards and frameworks does Poka Yoke relate to?

Poka Yoke is fundamental to Lean, the Toyota Production System, Six Sigma DMAIC and Total Quality Management, and supports the risk-based, defect-prevention thinking in ISO 9001:2015. It is also directly linked to FMEA, which often outputs the requirements for mistake-proofing solutions.

    Who developed Poka Yoke?

Poka Yoke was developed by Shigeo Shingo in the 1960s as part of the Toyota Production System. He formalised the concept and categorised mistake-proofing devices in his 1986 book, Zero Quality Control: Source Inspection and the Poka-Yoke System.

    Pricing

How much does the Poka Yoke training cost in Malaysia?

Pricing is available on request and varies by delivery mode, group size and schedule. Corporate on-site and group rates are available for teams. Request a quote and a learning advisor will share the current options for your preferred format.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six Poka Yoke modules, hands-on error identification and design exercises, real-world case studies, course materials, and a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Ask about corporate inclusions for group bookings.

Do you offer corporate or group pricing?

    Are there payment options available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and can discuss instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you or your organisation.

Is there any separate certification or exam fee?

No. Poka Yoke is a non-certification skills course with no examination and no external awarding body, so there is no separate exam or certification fee. You receive a course completion record on finishing the programme.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for the Poka Yoke training?

No. This is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on error identification and Poka Yoke design exercises, case studies and group discussion throughout the one-day programme.

Do I receive a certification after the course?

No formal certification or credential is awarded by an external body. Participants receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. The value is in the practical mistake-proofing skills you can apply immediately at work.

How is learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply the techniques live through error identification and Poka Yoke design exercises on realistic process scenarios, so you practise the method during the training rather than sitting a test.

What will I be able to do after completing the training?

You will be able to identify error-prone process steps, classify errors using Shingo's categories, select the right prevention or detection mechanism, apply the six-step design process, implement and validate solutions, and embed mistake-proofing into your quality management system.

What is the next step after Poka Yoke training?

Poka Yoke is a strong foundation for further Lean and quality learning such as 7 QC Tools, Value Stream Mapping, FMEA, Kaizen and Lean Six Sigma Yellow or Green Belt training, all available through Invensis Learning.

    Course Content

What topics does the Poka Yoke training cover?

The programme covers six modules: an introduction to Poka Yoke and the cost of defects, human error and error types, Poka Yoke classification and types, the six-step design process, real-world case studies, and implementing mistake-proofing in your organisation, with hands-on exercises throughout.

What is the difference between prevention-type and detection-type Poka Yoke?

Prevention-type (control) Poka Yoke makes an error physically impossible or stops the process from proceeding, the strongest form of mistake-proofing. Detection-type (warning) Poka Yoke detects an error the moment it occurs and alerts the operator before it becomes a defect. The course covers when to use each.

Does the course include real-world case studies?

Yes. You explore mistake-proofing case studies from automotive and electronics manufacturing, healthcare, airline and banking services, and software, drawing out the common patterns that make even simple solutions dramatically reduce defect rates.

How long is the Poka Yoke training?

The course is delivered in one day (8 hours), covering all six modules with concept explanations, real-world case studies, and hands-on error identification and Poka Yoke design exercises. A half-day format across two days is also available.

Can Poka Yoke be applied outside manufacturing?

Yes. While it originated in manufacturing, Poka Yoke applies wherever human error creates quality, safety or compliance problems, including healthcare, logistics, financial services, food and beverage, and IT. The course includes worked examples from service and administrative processes.
