Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%).

    General

    What is the PMI-CP certification?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%).

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Sacramento?

Yes. Construction project manager roles in Sacramento average around $116,000 a year, and employers on high-speed rail, water and commercial projects increasingly seek certified construction leaders. PMI-CP proves you can manage contracts, risk and governance at scale.

    Who should take PMI-CP training?

PMI-CP suits construction project managers, site managers, project engineers, owner's representatives and construction consultants who want a globally recognized specialist credential. It is aimed at experienced practitioners rather than beginners entering the industry.

Do I need a PMP before the PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. The two are complementary: PMP validates general project management across all industries, while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise. Many construction professionals hold both.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

PMI-CP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 professional development units (PDUs) across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year cycle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area.

What standard is the PMI-CP based on?

The exam is based on the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO), underpinned by the PMBOK Guide and construction industry standards. The ECO defines the four domains and the tasks the exam assesses.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Sacramento?

PMI-CP training fees vary by format and are available on request. The fee covers PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams and application guidance. The PMI exam fee is billed separately by PMI in USD. Request a quote for current pricing and batches.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application, plus learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

How much is the PMI-CP exam fee?

PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD. For reference, it is around USD 520 for PMI members and USD 670 for non-members, though prices vary; confirm current fees at pmi.org. PMI membership can reduce the exam cost.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customized schedules and volume-based pricing for construction teams, project management offices and delivery groups. Contact us for a tailored group quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer installment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a 230-minute (3 hours 50 minutes) time limit. It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered online proctored or at a Pearson VUE test center.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and weights?

There are four domains per the PMI-CP ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is by far the largest, reflecting its centrality in construction delivery.

What are the prerequisites for the PMI-CP exam?

You must complete all four mandatory self-paced modules and meet one experience set: a secondary diploma plus 60 months of construction PM experience, a bachelor's degree plus 36 months, or a GAC-accredited degree plus 24 months. All include 35 contact hours of PM education.

What if I do not pass the PMI-CP exam?

PMI allows up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Our training includes practice questions and mock exams to help you prepare thoroughly and reduce the chance of a resit.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, and performance is reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. You learn contract administration, change orders, claims, stakeholder engagement, scope, risk, quality and governance.

Do I need prior experience to take the training?

Anyone can enroll in the training to build knowledge and earn contact hours. To sit the PMI-CP exam, however, PMI requires construction project management experience and the four prerequisite modules, so the credential is aimed at working practitioners.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying, you complete four self-paced modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total, which count toward renewal.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led program provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 hours of PM education PMI requires. Check with our team on supplementary self-study or pre-reading that can be credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP ECO?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the PMBOK Guide, so you study the four domains and tasks exactly as PMI assesses them on the exam.
