Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The CSM is the Scrum Alliance entry-level Scrum Master credential. It validates your understanding of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role, and the values and practices that make Scrum teams effective, and it is the most widely recognised Scrum Master credential worldwide.

    General

    What is the CSM certification?

The CSM is the Scrum Alliance entry-level Scrum Master credential. It validates your understanding of the Scrum framework, the Scrum Master role, and the values and practices that make Scrum teams effective, and it is the most widely recognised Scrum Master credential worldwide.

Is the CSM worth it for professionals in Canada?

Yes. Scrum Masters in Canada earn an average of around C$97,000, and CSM holders report a 15 to 20 percent premium over non-certified peers. Banks, tech firms and consultancies actively hire for the role, so the credential offers a strong return. Talk to a learning advisor to plan your path.

Who should take the CSM course?

The CSM suits aspiring Scrum Masters, project managers moving into agile, and developers, testers or business analysts who want to formalise their Scrum knowledge. There is no formal work experience or education requirement, so it works well for those new to Scrum.

How long is the CSM certification valid?

The CSM is valid for two years. To renew, you earn 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and pay the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle. SEUs can be earned through courses, conferences, coaching and self-study.

What is the next step after the CSM?

The Advanced Certified ScrumMaster (A-CSM) is the next level in the Scrum Alliance Scrum Master track, covering advanced facilitation, coaching and stakeholder engagement. The CSM is the mandatory prerequisite, and A-CSM also expects experience in a Scrum Master role.

    Pricing

What is included in the CSM course fee?

The fee typically covers the instructor-led course delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer, Scrum Alliance-aligned courseware, practice questions, learner support, and the two-year Scrum Alliance membership you receive on passing the exam. Request a quote for a full breakdown.

How much does CSM training cost in Canada?

CSM training pricing in Canada varies by format and schedule, so exact fees are available on request. The course is delivered live virtually and in corporate formats, and a learning advisor can share current pricing and any group offers.

Is the CSM exam fee included in the training?

For the CSM, the Scrum Alliance online exam fee is typically included in the course fee paid to the training provider. Confirm the current inclusion when you enrol, as it can vary by provider and package.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for delivery teams, departments and whole organisations. Contact us for a tailored group quote for your team.

    What payment methods are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

What is the format of the CSM exam?

The CSM exam has 50 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 60 minutes. It is open book and taken online through the Scrum Alliance member portal after you complete the course, with no proctor required.

What is the passing score for the CSM exam?

The passing score is 74 percent, meaning you must answer at least 37 of the 50 questions correctly. The open-book format lets you refer to materials, so focus on understanding the Scrum framework rather than memorising it.

How many attempts do I get for the CSM exam?

Candidates typically have three attempts to pass the CSM exam within 90 days of completing the course. If you do not pass at first, your trainer's guidance and the course materials help you prepare for the next attempt within that window.

Do I need to attend a course to take the CSM exam?

Yes. Attending an approved CSM course delivered by a Scrum Alliance Certified Scrum Trainer is mandatory. The online exam is only unlocked once you complete the course, and you then have 90 days to sit it.

Which standard is the CSM exam based on?

The exam is based on the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and aligned to the current Scrum Guide, the November 2020 edition by Ken Schwaber and Jeff Sutherland. The 2020 Scrum Guide introduced the Product Goal and the commitments for each artifact.

    Course Content

What topics does the CSM course cover?

The course covers the six CSM topic areas: Scrum theory and principles, the Scrum values, the Scrum team, the Scrum events, the Scrum artifacts, and the Scrum Master role. It maps directly to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives.

Can a beginner take the CSM course?

Yes. The CSM has no formal prerequisites and is designed for those new to Scrum as well as practitioners formalising their knowledge. The trainer builds up from the fundamentals, so no prior Scrum experience is required.

How long is the CSM training?

The CSM training is a 16-hour programme, delivered as two full days or across four half-days depending on the schedule. This exceeds the Scrum Alliance minimum contact-hours requirement for the course.

Is the courseware aligned to the current Scrum Guide?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the Scrum Alliance CSM Learning Objectives and the current Scrum Guide (2020 edition), so you learn the latest framework, including the Product Goal, Sprint Goal and Definition of Done as commitments.

What materials are provided with the course?

You receive Scrum Alliance-aligned course materials, industry case studies illustrating facilitation and impediment removal, practice questions, and guidance on earning SEUs for CSM renewal. All materials support both the exam and real-world practice.

    Enrollment

How do I enrol in the CSM course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred schedule and format, complete payment, and you will receive access to your session details, courseware and learning resources. Talk to an advisor if you need help choosing a batch.

    What training formats are available?

We offer CSM training online as live virtual instructor-led sessions, plus classroom and customised corporate group training. Each format is delivered by a Certified Scrum Trainer, so you can choose what fits your schedule.

How soon can I start the CSM course?

New CSM batches run regularly across Canadian time zones, so you can usually start within a few weeks. View upcoming schedules or speak with a learning advisor to find the next available cohort.

Can I reschedule or transfer my batch?

Yes. You can reschedule or transfer to another batch under our flexi options. Contact support ahead of your session to arrange a new date that works for you.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
