Skills You Will Build as a Product OwnerProduct Ownership Capabilities That Stick

This CSPO program builds practical product ownership capability, from setting vision and managing the backlog to engaging stakeholders and planning releases. By the end you can step into the Product Owner role and turn product strategy into delivered value.

Apply Scrum Theory to Product Decisions

What you will learn in CSPO training starts with empiricism: how transparency, inspection and adaptation guide product decisions in complex, fast-moving environments, and how the Product Owner accountability fits within the Scrum team.

Own and Order the Product Backlog

Manage an emergent, ordered Product Backlog as the single source of truth. Apply INVEST criteria, write clear acceptance criteria, and order work by value, risk and dependencies so teams always build the most important thing next.

Define Product Vision and Product Goal

Craft a compelling product vision and set the Product Goal as the backlog commitment. Use roadmaps and product strategy to keep long-term direction connected to what each sprint delivers.

    Write Effective User Stories

Turn needs into well-formed user stories and break epics down into valuable, testable items. Use story mapping to visualize the product and keep the backlog clear for the whole team.

    Engage Stakeholders and Maximize Value

Identify stakeholders, gather feedback through the Sprint Review, and balance competing priorities with evidence. Learn to define and measure the value each increment delivers to customers and the business.

    Plan Releases and Forecast Delivery

Plan releases the agile way using MVP and minimal marketable feature thinking, forecast with velocity, and communicate honest delivery expectations while flexing scope within fixed sprints.

What is the Certified Scrum Product Owner certification?

The Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) is a Scrum Alliance credential that teaches the Scrum framework from the Product Owner's perspective. It covers product vision, Product Backlog management and stakeholder collaboration, and is awarded when you complete an approved course led by a Certified Scrum Trainer.

    Who should take CSPO training?

There is no formal education or experience requirement, so it works for both newcomers and experienced practitioners.

Do I need prior Scrum experience to enroll?

No prior Scrum experience is required. The course builds from Scrum theory up to product ownership practices, so beginners can follow along while experienced professionals deepen and formalize what they already do.

How long is the CSPO certification valid?

CSPO certification is valid for two years from course completion. You renew it by earning 16 Scrum Education Units (SEUs) and paying the Scrum Alliance membership renewal fee within each two-year cycle.
