Why Jamaican Employers Need Design-Quality Talent

    Defects Designed in, Not Out

Too many products reach the market before quality problems surface, forcing costly redesign. Building quality into the design from the outset prevents defects rather than fixing them after launch.

The DMADV roadmap builds design-quality capability

    Export Quality Expectations

As manufacturers chase regional and global markets, buyers demand consistent, defect-free products. Structured design methods help Jamaican firms meet international quality expectations.

VOC and CTQ tools meet buyer requirements

    Rising Cost and Levy Pressure

Margin and environmental-levy pressure push manufacturers to cut waste. Robust design reduces rework, warranty and scrap by getting products right the first time.

Robust design cuts rework and scrap

    Industry 4.0 Product Complexity

Robotics, AI and digital fabrication are raising product and process complexity. Voice-of-customer and design-risk tools keep new designs aligned to real customer requirements.

    Design-risk tools tame complexity

    Scarce Design-Quality Talent

Jamaica has strong project and DMAIC skills but few professionals trained to design quality in. That gap makes design-focused practitioners rare and sought-after.

Design skills make you stand out

    R&D to Production Handover Gaps

New products often stumble when they move from R&D to the factory floor. Design verification and design transfer methods close the gap and protect first-pass quality.

Yes. As Jamaican manufacturers compete on export quality and adopt Industry 4.0 practices, the ability to design quality in rather than inspect defects out is a valued, practical skill across food and beverage, agro-processing, consumer goods and emerging medical-device sectors.

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes so they meet requirements from the outset. DFSS uses the DMADV roadmap: Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. Organisations often use both together.

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces all DFSS tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma concepts such as CTQ and variation is helpful but not required.

    General

What is Design for Six Sigma training?

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) training is a practical, one-day skills programme that teaches you to design new products, services and processes to meet customer needs and reach Six Sigma quality levels from the start. It covers the DMADV roadmap and core design tools such as VOC, QFD, DFMEA and robust design.

Who should attend this Design for Six Sigma course?

The course suits product and design engineers, R&D professionals, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers and new product development managers. It is also valuable for Six Sigma Green Belts and Black Belts who want to add the design counterpart to their DMAIC skills.

Is Design for Six Sigma worth it for professionals in Jamaica?

Yes. As Jamaican manufacturers compete on export quality and adopt Industry 4.0 practices, the ability to design quality in rather than inspect defects out is a valued, practical skill across food and beverage, agro-processing, consumer goods and emerging medical-device sectors.

What is the difference between DFSS and DMAIC?

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes so they meet requirements from the outset. DFSS uses the DMADV roadmap: Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. Organisations often use both together.

Do I need prior Six Sigma knowledge to attend?

No. The course has no formal prerequisites and introduces all DFSS tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma concepts such as CTQ and variation is helpful but not required.

    Pricing

How much does Design for Six Sigma training cost in Jamaica?

Training fees vary by delivery mode, group size and format, so pricing is available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current individual and corporate rates for Jamaica, and request a quote to get pricing that fits your needs.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all six DMADV modules, structured courseware, hands-on tool exercises, learner support and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Confirm the exact inclusions for your chosen format when you enrol.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for engineering, R&D and quality teams. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote for your organisation.

Are there discounts for team enrolments?

Group and team enrolments can qualify for volume-based rates. The larger the group, the better the per-learner value, and onsite delivery can further reduce cost per participant. Talk to a learning advisor about the options for your team.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for Design for Six Sigma training?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on tool exercises, real-world case examples and team discussion across the one-day programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the training?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning after completing the one-day programme. It recognises your participation in the training rather than a formal external credential.

    How is my learning assessed?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply DFSS tools such as VOC to CTQ flow-down, QFD, the Pugh matrix and Design FMEA to realistic design scenarios during the session, so you practise the methods as you learn them.

Is Design for Six Sigma a certification?

No. Design for Six Sigma is a methodology, and this is a practical training course in that methodology, not a certification with an exam or governing body. You build workplace skills you can apply to new product and process design immediately.

How will I apply what I learn at work?

You leave able to lead or support DMADV projects, run voice-of-customer workshops, build QFD House of Quality matrices, conduct Design FMEAs and plan design verification. The tools apply directly to new product development and process design.

    Course Content

What topics are covered in the course?

The training covers all six DMADV areas: an introduction to DFSS and DMADV, the Define phase (VOC and Kano), the Measure phase (CTQ flow-down and QFD), the Analyse phase (concept selection and DFMEA), the Design phase (robust design and DFMA) and the Verify phase (verification, validation and design transfer).

    What is the DMADV roadmap?

DMADV stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify. It is the most widely used Design for Six Sigma roadmap, guiding you from defining customer requirements through to verifying that a new design meets them before launch.

Which tools will I practise during the course?

You practise voice of the customer capture, the Kano model, CTQ flow-down, Quality Function Deployment, the Pugh concept selection matrix, Design FMEA with RPN scoring, the P-diagram, robust design and the design scorecard.

How long is the training and what format is it?

The programme runs for one day (8 hours) and is available as live virtual instructor-led, classroom or onsite corporate training. It combines concept explanation, real-world examples and hands-on tool exercises throughout.

    Can beginners take this course?

Yes. The course is beginner-friendly and builds every DFSS tool from first principles. Some familiarity with basic quality or Six Sigma ideas helps, but no design or statistical background is required to benefit.
