What Is Driving Demand for Six Sigma Skills in Portugal

    Automotive Lean Pressure

Portugal's automotive plants, from Volkswagen Autoeuropa to Continental Mabor, run just-in-time lean production, so teams need a shared understanding of variation and defect reduction to hold quality high.

Awareness training builds a shared quality language

    Pharma and Medical-Device Quality

Life-sciences employers such as Hovione work under strict quality regulation, where DMAIC thinking and awareness of CTQ and process control help every employee support consistency and compliance.

Awareness training supports quality and compliance

    Shared-Services Efficiency

Lisbon and Porto host fast-growing shared-services and nearshoring centres where process standardisation and error reduction are core, making Six Sigma awareness valuable well beyond manufacturing.

Awareness training extends beyond the factory floor

    Continuous Improvement Talent Gap

Portuguese firms have many skilled operators but fewer people fluent in structured improvement, so awareness training builds the foundation a Lean Six Sigma programme needs to succeed.

Awareness training builds the base a programme needs

    Cost and Customer Pressure

Tight margins in manufacturing and services push organisations to cut waste and rework, so staff who understand the cost of poor quality can spot and support real savings.

Awareness training helps teams spot waste

    Data-Driven Decision Culture

Moving from opinion-based to data-based decisions is a change challenge, and shared awareness of Six Sigma language reduces resistance and speeds adoption across teams.

    Course Content

What topics does the Six Sigma Awareness Training cover?

The course covers six modules: Six Sigma history and philosophy, key concepts and terminology, the DMAIC methodology, Six Sigma roles and structure, an awareness-level look at key tools, and Lean Six Sigma in practice.

What is DMAIC and will I learn it?

DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control, the core Six Sigma roadmap for improving existing processes. You will learn what each phase involves and how tollgate reviews keep improvement decisions grounded in data.

Which Six Sigma tools are introduced?

You gain awareness of tools such as SIPOC, fishbone diagrams, Pareto charts, control charts, process capability and the Voice of the Customer, and see how each is used within a DMAIC project, without needing to master the statistics.

How long is the training and what format is it?

The programme runs for one day, about eight hours, delivered live online, in the classroom or on-site. It combines concept explanations, real-world case studies, interactive discussion and team exercises.

Do I need statistical knowledge to follow the course?

No. The tools and concepts are introduced at awareness level, so you understand what is done and why without deep statistics. It is designed for a general audience across any function or industry.

Does the course cover Lean Six Sigma too?

Yes. A dedicated module explains how Lean waste elimination combines with Six Sigma variation reduction, and how Lean tools like value stream mapping, 5S and Kaizen complement the DMAIC methodology.
