The course suits project managers, coordinators, planners and team members who own or update the project plan. Why South Africa's Project Teams Need Stronger Scheduling

    Ageing Skills and Talent Shortage

South Africa's construction sector faces a shrinking pool of experienced professionals. Teams increasingly need people who combine delivery know-how with fluency in project scheduling software.

Microsoft Project training closes the planning-skills gap

    Big Pipeline, Tight Delivery

With R144bn in priority-sector financing and a heavy energy, rail and water pipeline, employers need disciplined scheduling to deliver complex projects on time and on budget.

Microsoft Project skills support on-time delivery

    Energy and Grid Build-Out

Targets of 11.3GW solar and 7.3GW wind by 2030 demand multi-project scheduling, resource levelling and risk-aware planning that spreadsheets simply cannot handle.

Microsoft Project skills support multi-project planning

    Mining Project Revival

New gold, platinum-group and critical-minerals projects need accurate schedules and resource plans to keep long-duration, capital-intensive work under control.

Microsoft Project skills support cost and risk control

    From Spreadsheets to Structured Plans

Many teams still track projects in spreadsheets. Microsoft Project brings dependencies, baselines and built-in reporting that manual sheets cannot provide.

Microsoft Project skills replace fragile spreadsheets

    Digital, AI-Ready Construction

As digital and AI-ready construction reshapes delivery, planners fluent in the industry-standard scheduling tool are increasingly valued across projects.

Microsoft Project fluency raises your value

    Your South Africa Skills Transformation

Your Skills Before and After the Training

A Clear Step up in Capability

South Africa's project pipeline is growing across energy, infrastructure, mining and IT, and employers increasingly separate people who can drive a schedule from those who cannot. Here is what changes once you can plan and control projects in Microsoft Project.

    Today

Seen as a capable doer, but not the person who owns the plan

    After Training

Trusted to own and control the project schedule from end to end

    Today

Limited to roles that do not require scheduling-tool fluency

    After Training

Eligible for planner, scheduler and PMO roles that list Microsoft Project

    Today

Reliant on contractors or colleagues to update the project file

    After Training

Self-sufficient in the industry-standard scheduling tool

    You master Microsoft Project

    Before

You build schedules in spreadsheets that break the moment dates change

    Now you can

You build dynamic, dependency-linked schedules that reschedule automatically

    Before

Resource conflicts surface late, often after the damage is done

    Now you can

You spot and resolve over-allocation before it derails delivery

    Before

Progress updates are manual and hard to compare against the plan

    Now you can

You track actuals against a baseline and see slippage at a glance

    Before

Status reports take hours to pull together by hand

    Now you can

You generate clear stakeholder reports in minutes from live data

"The difference between a plan that holds and one that slips is often the person driving the schedule. Microsoft Project puts you in that seat."

It is offered at Fundamentals and Advanced levels and does not include an examination.

    General

    What is Microsoft Project training?

Microsoft Project training is a practical, hands-on course that teaches you to plan, schedule, resource and track projects using Microsoft Project, the industry-standard scheduling software from Microsoft Corporation. It is offered at Fundamentals and Advanced levels and does not include an examination.

Who should attend this course in South Africa?

It suits project managers, coordinators, planners, schedulers, PMO analysts and team members who own or update the project plan. Across South Africa these skills are used on construction, mining, energy, IT and financial services projects.

Is Microsoft Project worth learning in 2026?

Yes. Microsoft Project remains the most widely used dedicated scheduling tool, and South African employers list it for planner, scheduler and PMO roles. With a large infrastructure and energy pipeline and a shortage of experienced planners, tool fluency is in strong demand.

Should I take the Fundamentals or Advanced level?

Choose Fundamentals if you are new to Microsoft Project or use it occasionally. Choose Advanced if you already use it and want to master resource levelling, Earned Value, custom reports and multi-project management. Both levels can be taken independently or in sequence.

Do I need Microsoft Project installed before the course?

Yes. You should have Microsoft Project installed and accessible on your device before training so you can follow the hands-on exercises. Microsoft Project is a separate Microsoft product; ask us whether a trial licence can be arranged for your session.

    Pricing

How much does Microsoft Project training cost in South Africa?

Pricing depends on the level (Fundamentals or Advanced), delivery format and group size, so a current fee is available on request. Request a quote and a learning advisor will share options that suit an individual or a team.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee typically includes instructor-led training across all modules, hands-on exercises using realistic scenarios, course materials, learner support and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Ask us to confirm the inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for project teams and PMOs. Contact us for a tailored quote for your organisation.

Do I need a Microsoft Project licence, and is it included?

You need access to Microsoft Project during and after the course to practise. The software is a separate commercial product from Microsoft. Speak to us about whether a trial or licensed copy can be arranged as part of your training.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Talk to a learning advisor to choose the option that works for you or your team.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for this course?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination at either level. Learning is reinforced through hands-on Microsoft Project exercises using realistic project scenarios throughout the programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the course?

Yes. On completing the training you receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning. It recognises the practical Microsoft Project skills you have built, which apply immediately to your project work.

How is learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you build proficiency by following the instructor in Microsoft Project and completing hands-on exercises on realistic project scenarios, so you can apply the tool confidently at work.

Is the course practical or theory based?

It is highly practical. Every module is taught with live Microsoft Project demonstrations, and you work along in the software, from building schedules and assigning resources to tracking progress and producing reports.

What will I be able to do after the course?

After Fundamentals you can build schedules, link tasks, assign resources, set a baseline and track progress. After Advanced you can level resources, run Earned Value analysis, build custom reports and manage master projects across programmes.

    Course Content

What does the Fundamentals level cover?

Fundamentals (2 days, 16 hours) covers project setup and calendars, building the work breakdown structure, task dependencies and the critical path, work, material and cost resources, baselines, progress tracking and built-in reports.

What does the Advanced level cover?

Advanced (3 days, 24 hours) covers task types and advanced scheduling, resource pools and levelling, cost management and Earned Value, custom fields, views and reports, master projects and cross-project links, and what-if scenario planning.

Which Microsoft Project features will I learn?

You learn Gantt charts, task dependencies, the critical path, resource assignment and levelling, baselines, the Tracking Gantt, variance and cost tables, Earned Value metrics, custom views and reports, and consolidating subprojects into a master project.

Are the sessions hands-on with real scenarios?

Yes. Both levels are delivered with live instructor demonstration and hands-on exercises using realistic project scenarios, so you practise each feature as it is taught rather than just watching.

Is the training suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. The Fundamentals level has no formal prerequisites and is designed for people new to Microsoft Project. Basic familiarity with Windows and Microsoft Office is helpful but not required.
