What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in China?

Yes. With record Belt and Road activity and large state infrastructure funding, China's contractors and clients increasingly value proven construction delivery skills. Construction project managers average around ¥384,600 a year, with construction managers reaching far higher, so a recognised specialism can strengthen your career and earning potential.

Is the PMP required before taking PMI-CP?

No. PMP is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary, however: PMP validates broad project management, while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise, and many professionals hold both.

How does PMI-CP differ from the PMP?

PMP is a broad credential covering all industries and delivery approaches. PMI-CP focuses exclusively on construction, with Contracts Management as its largest domain at 50%, reflecting the central role of contract administration, claims and disputes in construction delivery.

Is the PMI-CP recognised internationally and in China?

How much does PMI-CP training cost in China?

PMI-CP training fees vary by format, whether live virtual, classroom or corporate group training, and are available on request. The training fee is separate from the PMI exam fee. Request a quote or talk to a learning advisor for current pricing and upcoming batches.

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes ECO-aligned courseware, practice questions and mock exams mapped to the four domains, guidance on the four mandatory modules and the PMI application, learner support, and a course completion certificate with training contact hours.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam fee separately in USD, and members pay less than non-members. PMI membership also reduces the exam cost. Confirm current exam and membership fees at pmi.org before applying.

What is the format of the PMI-CP exam?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a duration of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

Per the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO), the four domains are Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management carries the most weight.

What are the prerequisites and mandatory modules for PMI-CP?

You must complete four mandatory self-paced modules (Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management, 56 PDUs total) plus one of three experience and education sets, each requiring 35 contact hours of PM education and construction experience within the past 10 years.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Focus on broad mastery across all four domains.

What happens if I do not pass the first time?

You get up to three attempts within your one-year eligibility period from application approval. Our mock exams and trainer guidance are designed to build readiness so you can approach each domain with confidence.

What will I learn in the PMI-CP training?

You learn to evaluate contracts and delivery methods, administer contracts and manage claims and change orders, engage owners, regulators and communities, align scope, schedule and budget, and establish project governance, across the full construction project lifecycle.

Which standard and outline is the training aligned to?

The training is aligned to the PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and its four domains, with the current edition of the PMBOK Guide and construction-specific standards as reference. This keeps your preparation focused on exactly what the exam assesses.

Are practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams aligned to the 120-question format and the four domains, plus quizzes to help you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Do I need construction experience to attend the training?

Anyone can attend the training to build construction project management skills. To sit the PMI-CP exam, however, PMI requires construction project management experience within the past 10 years and 35 contact hours of PM education, plus the four mandatory modules.

Will I receive a certificate of completion?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the training contact hours earned through the programme, which support your PMI-CP education requirement.
