How to Get PMI-CP Certified in ShenzhenStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in Shenzhen is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in China or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

    General

What is the PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) certification?

The PMI-CP is PMI's specialist credential for the construction industry. It validates your ability to apply project management in a construction environment across four domains: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent).

Who should take PMI-CP training in Shenzhen?

PMI-CP suits construction project managers, site managers, project engineers, owner's representatives and consultants working on building, civil or infrastructure projects. It is ideal for professionals in Shenzhen who want a globally recognised, construction-specific project management credential.

Is PMI-CP recognised in Shenzhen and the Greater Bay Area?

Yes. As a PMI credential, PMI-CP carries global recognition through PMI's network in over 200 countries. It is valued by contractors, developers and public agencies delivering the large capital projects that define Shenzhen and the wider Greater Bay Area.

Is the PMP required before PMI-CP?

No. PMP certification is not a prerequisite for PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two are complementary: PMP validates broad project management, while PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

Is PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Shenzhen?

Yes. Construction project manager roles in Shenzhen average around 408,000 yuan a year, with director bands reaching far higher, and a 3.15 trillion yuan project pipeline is fuelling demand for certified leaders. Talk to a learning advisor about the right pathway for you.

    Pricing

What is included in the PMI-CP course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, scenario exercises, guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the application, learner support and a course completion certificate with contact hours. Request a quote for full inclusions.

How much does the PMI-CP exam cost?

PMI bills the exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and members pay less than non-members. PMI membership also lowers renewal costs. Confirm current PMI-CP exam and re-examination fees on the PMI store before you apply.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts in Shenzhen?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction teams, PMOs and engineering divisions. Ask about corporate or group pricing for a tailored quote.

Are there instalment or payment options?

Yes. We accept major cards and bank transfers and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is the exam fee part of the training price?

No. The PMI-CP exam fee is charged separately by PMI in USD under regional pricing and is not part of the training fee. Your training covers preparation, courseware and support to help you pass.

    Exam

How long is the PMI-CP exam and how many questions are there?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a duration of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions.

What are the PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

There are four domains in the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline: Contracts Management (50 per cent), Stakeholder Engagement (30 per cent), Strategy and Scope Management (15 per cent) and Project Governance (5 per cent).

What if I do not pass the exam the first time?

You are allowed up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Our preparation, mock exams and post-training support are designed to help you pass, so a first attempt does not have to be your only one.

Where can I sit the PMI-CP exam in Shenzhen?

You can take the exam online via Pearson VUE's OnVUE proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre. Scheduling is done through PMI's portal or the Pearson VUE website within your eligibility window.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback, so aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

Do I need prior experience to earn PMI-CP?

Yes, PMI-CP is an advanced credential. You must complete four mandatory self-paced modules and meet one experience and education set: for example a bachelor's degree plus 36 months of construction project management experience within the past 10 years and 35 contact hours of PM education.

What are the four mandatory prerequisite modules?

Before applying you must complete four self-paced PMI-CP modules in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each is a 6 to 10 hour commitment and awards 14 PDUs, 56 in total.
