How to Get PMI-CP Certified in NanjingStep-by-Step Certification Process

The PMI-CP (PMI Construction Professional) certification path in Nanjing is a structured single-exam track. You must complete the four-module training, document 3 years of construction or built-environment project experience earned within the past 10 years, then pass the 120-question, 230-minute PMI-CP exam delivered by PMI through Pearson VUE. From initial training to earning the PMI-CP designation typically takes 1-3 months.

Step 1: Confirm You Meet the PMI-CP Eligibility Requirements

Confirm you can document 3 years of on-the-job experience in construction projects or built-environment projects (infrastructure, real estate, utilities, etc.). The experience must have been earned within the past 10 years. There is no foundational PMI credential prerequisite for PMI-CP.

Step 2: Enroll in a Learning Program

Choose a learning format that aligns with your schedule and goals, such as a PMI-CP bootcamp, live virtual training, self-paced learning, or corporate group training. Enrollment provides access to PMI-aligned learning resources, study materials, and expert guidance.

Step 3: Submit Your PMI-CP Application via the PMI Candidate Portal

Create or sign in to your PMI account at pmi.org, complete the PMI-CP application, and document your training (32 contact hours) plus 3 years of construction project experience earned within the past 10 years. PMI membership (~$139/year) is optional but reduces the exam fee.

Step 4: Receive Application Approval and Register for the Exam

PMI reviews your application within ~5 business days. On approval, you receive eligibility to register for the PMI-CP exam through Pearson VUE. Your eligibility window opens for 1 year, during which you can attempt the exam up to 3 times.

    Step 5: Sit the 120-Question, 230-Minute PMI-CP Exam

Book a Pearson VUE slot , online proctored from home or office in China or at a Pearson VUE test centre. The exam includes 120 multiple-choice and scenario questions across the four PMI-CP domains, delivered over 230 minutes. You receive your preliminary result at the end of the session.

Step 6: Earn the PMI-CP Designation and Plan CCR Renewal

After passing the exam, PMI issues your PMI-CP digital badge and certificate. The designation is valid for three years and is renewable via PMI's Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme by earning PDUs in construction and built-environment-relevant content across the 3-year cycle.

Frequently Asked QuestionsHere's everything you may ask...

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction project management, validating your ability to deliver construction projects across their full lifecycle. It is designed for construction project managers, site and project engineers moving into PM roles, and PMP holders working in construction.

    General

What is the PMI-CP certification and who is it for?

The PMI Construction Professional (PMI-CP) is PMI's specialist certification for construction project management, validating your ability to deliver construction projects across their full lifecycle. It is designed for construction project managers, site and project engineers moving into PM roles, and PMP holders working in construction.

Is the PMI-CP worth it for construction professionals in Nanjing?

Yes. Nanjing's metro, high-speed rail, bridge and building programmes create strong demand for credentialed construction project managers. The PMI-CP proves construction-specific competence with a globally recognised PMI credential, helping you access senior roles and stronger pay across Jiangsu.

What standard and exam outline is the PMI-CP based on?

The PMI-CP is based on the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline (ECO) and the latest edition of the PMBOK Guide. The ECO defines four domains: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%).

Is the PMP required before taking the PMI-CP?

No. The PMP is not a prerequisite for the PMI-CP. You can apply based on your construction project management experience and education. The two credentials are complementary: the PMP covers general project management, while the PMI-CP validates construction-specific expertise.

How long is the PMI-CP certification valid?

The PMI-CP is valid for three years from the date of certification. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle within each three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

    Is the PMI-CP recognised internationally?

Yes. As a PMI credential, the PMI-CP is recognised through PMI's network across more than 200 countries. It is valued in international construction markets, including Belt and Road and cross-border projects, where clients expect globally recognised project management credentials.

    Pricing

How much does PMI-CP training cost in Nanjing?

PMI-CP training in Nanjing is quoted on request and varies by format and group size, with local pricing in CNY. The PMI exam and prerequisite module fees are billed separately by PMI in USD. Request a quote to see current pricing for your preferred format.

What is included in the course fee?

The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, application guidance and learner support, plus a course completion certificate with contact hours. Talk to a learning advisor to confirm what your chosen plan includes.

Are the exam and module fees included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PMI-CP exam and the four mandatory course modules separately in USD under regional pricing. PMI members pay less than non-members. Confirm current fees on pmi.org before you apply.

Do you offer corporate or group discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for construction teams, project offices and site leadership. Ask about corporate pricing for a tailored quote for your organisation.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, and offer instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Exam

How many questions are on the PMI-CP exam and how long is it?

The PMI-CP exam has 120 questions and a duration of 230 minutes (3 hours 50 minutes). It is closed book, with single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice questions, delivered via Pearson VUE online proctoring or at a test centre.

What are the four PMI-CP exam domains and their weights?

The PMI-CP has four domains per the current ECO: Contracts Management (50%), Stakeholder Engagement (30%), Strategy and Scope Management (15%) and Project Governance (5%). Contracts Management is by far the largest, reflecting the centrality of contracts in construction.

What are the eligibility requirements for the PMI-CP?

Eligibility has two parts. You must complete all four mandatory self-paced PMI-CP modules, and meet one of three experience sets: 60 months of construction PM experience with a secondary diploma, 36 months with a bachelor's degree, or 24 months with a GAC-accredited degree, each within the past 10 years, plus 35 contact hours of PM education.

What is the passing score for the PMI-CP exam?

PMI does not publish a fixed percentage pass mark. The result is determined through psychometric analysis, and performance is reported by domain as Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement. Aim for broad mastery across all four domains.

How many attempts do I get, and what if I do not pass first time?

You get up to three attempts within the one-year eligibility period from application approval. Re-examination fees apply to later attempts. Our training and practice resources are designed to help you prepare thoroughly and reduce the risk of a resit.

    Course Content

What topics does the PMI-CP training cover?

The training covers the four PMI-CP domains: Contracts Management, Stakeholder Engagement, Strategy and Scope Management, and Project Governance. It also includes exam strategy and guidance on the four prerequisite modules and the PMI application.

Do I need to complete the four PMI-CP modules?

Yes. All candidates must complete the four mandatory self-paced PMI-CP modules before applying, in any order: Project Communications, Interface Management, Scope and Change Order Management, and Contract and Risk Management. Each awards 14 PDUs, for 56 PDUs in total.

Are practice tests and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions, full-length mock exams and topic-wise quizzes aligned to the 120-question format, so you can identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Is the courseware aligned to the current PMI-CP outline?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to the current PMI-CP Examination Content Outline and the latest edition of the PMBOK Guide, so you study the domains, tasks and weightings the exam actually tests.

Does this training meet the 35 contact hours requirement?

The instructor-led programme provides 32 contact hours, which is close to but below the 35 contact hours of PM education PMI requires. Check with our team on how supplementary self-study or pre-reading can be credited toward the 35-hour requirement.

    Enrollment

What are the requirements to enrol in the training?

Anyone can enrol in the PMI-CP training. To sit the exam, PMI requires completion of the four mandatory modules plus one of three construction experience and education sets. Enrolling early gives you time to complete the modules and prepare your application.

How do I enrol in the PMI-CP course?

You can enrol through the Invensis Learning website. Choose your preferred format, complete payment, and you will receive access to schedules, courseware and learning resources. Talk to a learning advisor if you need help choosing a batch.

What training formats are available in Nanjing?

We offer online (live virtual) instructor-led training, classroom training, and customised corporate group training for construction teams. Choose the format that fits your schedule and how your team prefers to learn.

Can I reschedule or transfer to another batch?

Yes. Flexi options let you reschedule or transfer to another batch if your plans change. Contact our support team to arrange this before your session begins.

What is the refund or cancellation policy?

Refunds and cancellations are handled per our published policy, and selected plans include a money-back guarantee. Reach out to our team for the details that apply to your enrolment.
