What Is Kanban and How Does It Streamline Work?UntitledThe Visual Pull System Behind Lean Flow

Kanban Training in Germany teaches you to run a visual, pull-based workflow that authorises work only when there is real downstream demand, cutting overproduction, backlog and multitasking waste. Kanban is a Japanese term for signboard or visual signal, and it began as the pull-scheduling engine of the Toyota Production System, developed by Taiichi Ohno in the 1950s. This one-day programme covers both worlds in one place: manufacturing Kanban and the knowledge-work Kanban framework used across IT, software and services. On the factory side you learn production and withdrawal kanban, supermarkets, container sizing and the six Kanban rules that keep just-in-time flow disciplined. On the knowledge-work side you learn the Kanban board, work-in-progress limits, flow metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram, the approach formalised for software and service teams by David J. Anderson. It is a strong fit for Germany's manufacturing, automotive, supply chain and technology sectors as they push Industry 4.0 and Lean-Agile ways of working. There is no exam and no formal prerequisite. You leave able to design a pull loop, set sensible WIP limits and read your own flow data, with a course completion record from Invensis Learning. Start building practical Kanban skills your team can use straight away.

Why Learning Kanban Pays off at WorkFor Professionals and Teams in Germany

    For Individuals

    For Individuals

This training helps you turn a busy, overloaded process into a calm, visible flow. You learn to make every piece of work visible, limit how much is started at once, and pull the next item only when there is capacity, whether you manage a production line, a supply chain or a software backlog. Whether you work in a factory in Stuttgart, a logistics hub in Duisburg or a tech team in Berlin, the pull-system skills apply directly to your day-to-day work and need no prior Lean or Agile background.

If you want to reduce lead times, kill hidden backlog and deliver more predictably, Kanban gives you a practical toolkit you can use immediately. You gain hands-on system design experience and a course completion record from Invensis Learning to show for it.

    • Design pull-based production loops that cut overproduction and excess inventory
    • Calculate kanban quantities and container sizes with a proven formula
    • Build Kanban boards with sensible WIP limits that end multitasking overload
    • Read lead time, cycle time and throughput to make flow visible
    • Interpret a Cumulative Flow Diagram to spot bottlenecks early
    • Apply Scrumban to combine Kanban flow with Scrum cadence
    • Bring a shared, visual workflow language to manufacturing or IT teams
    • Add an in-demand Lean-Agile skill valued across German industry
    For Organizations

    For Organizations

Group Kanban training helps organisations build a consistent, visual way of managing work across factories, supply chains and IT teams. The programme can be delivered for a single line, a service desk or a cross-functional group, using your own workflows in the exercises. For organisations pursuing Lean flow and Industry 4.0, this training gives teams a shared, evidence-based approach to limiting work in progress and improving flow.

Market Forces Driving Kanban Demand in Germany

    The Industry 4.0 Execution Gap

Nine in ten German manufacturers use or plan Industry 4.0, yet only a small share of Mittelstand firms move past experimentation. Kanban gives teams a simple, visual pull system to make new ways of working stick.

Kanban builds visual, pull-based flow skills

    A Structural Skills Shortage

With around 109,000 IT specialist roles unfilled and shortages forecast to widen, teams must do more with the people they have. Kanban limits work in progress and improves flow so output rises without burning people out.

Kanban improves flow without adding headcount

    Automotive Transformation Pressure

As German automakers restructure toward EV and embedded software, roles and processes are shifting fast. Kanban helps production and engineering teams rebalance work, cut waste and keep flow steady through change.

    Kanban supports lean, adaptive delivery

    Multitasking Waste in Knowledge Work

Software, IT and service teams are routinely given more work than they can finish, so context switching stalls delivery. WIP limits and a shared Kanban board turn overload into a predictable, sustainable flow.

    Kanban WIP limits stop overcommitment

    Supply Chain Volatility

Disruption and demand swings expose the cost of push scheduling and excess inventory. Kanban replenishes only against real withdrawal signals, aligning materials to actual demand and reducing tied-up capital.

    Kanban enables pull-based replenishment

    Unpredictable Lead Times

Leaders struggle to promise dates when work is invisible and queues are hidden. Lead time, throughput and the Cumulative Flow Diagram give teams evidence-based forecasts instead of guesswork.

Kanban flow metrics make delivery predictable

Kanban is more than a board on the wall. It is a practical way to make work flow and cut waste across manufacturing and knowledge work. Join professionals in Germany building pull-system skills their teams use every day. Start your journey today.

The Practical Kanban Skills You Will BuildFrom Pull Loops to Flow Metrics

This programme gives you hands-on capability across both manufacturing and knowledge-work Kanban. By the end of the day you can design a pull loop, set sensible WIP limits, and interpret your own flow metrics to drive improvement.

Push vs Pull and the JIT Mindset

Skills you gain in Kanban Training start here: understand why overproduction is the worst waste, how pull production works, and how the kanban signal makes just-in-time flow a practical reality on the floor and in service delivery.

    Manufacturing Kanban System Design

Design pull loops using production and withdrawal kanban, supermarkets, one-bin and two-bin systems, and e-Kanban. Apply the six Toyota Production System rules that keep a manufacturing pull system disciplined.

    Kanban Sizing and Implementation

Calculate kanban quantities and the number of cards using takt time and the standard sizing formula, then follow a step-by-step roadmap to pilot, measure and scale a Kanban system while avoiding common mistakes.

    Kanban Boards and WIP Limits

Build knowledge-work Kanban boards with columns, swimlanes, classes of service and a clear Definition of Done. Set work-in-progress limits that stop overcommitment and force teams to finish before they start.

    Flow Metrics and the CFD

Measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, apply Little's Law, and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram to spot bottlenecks. Use flow data for probabilistic forecasting instead of guesswork.

    Scrumban and Sustaining Kanban

Combine Kanban with Scrum as Scrumban, run the Kanban cadences, and prevent WIP-limit creep so improvement continues over time across both manufacturing and knowledge-work teams.

    Pricing

How much does Kanban Training in Germany cost?

Pricing varies by delivery mode, group size and schedule, so the fee is available on request. The training fee typically covers instructor-led sessions, courseware, hands-on exercises and learner support. Request a quote for current pricing and upcoming dates.

What is included in the course fee?

The fee generally includes live instructor-led training, structured courseware, hands-on Kanban design exercises, practice scenarios, and a course completion record. Contact a learning advisor to confirm what is included in your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate discounts?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for production lines, IT teams and cross-functional groups. Ask about corporate and group pricing for a tailored quote.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major cards and bank transfers, and instalment options are available on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

Is there any ongoing cost to keep the skills current?

No. Because this is a non-certification course, there is nothing to renew and no maintenance fee. The Kanban skills you learn remain applicable, and you can revisit advanced Lean topics through related Invensis Learning courses when ready.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for Kanban Training?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no exam. Learning is reinforced through hands-on system design exercises, real-world case examples and team discussion across the one-day programme.

How is my learning assessed during the course?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply concepts through practical exercises such as kanban quantity calculation, pull-loop design, Kanban board design and WIP-limit setting, so you can check your understanding as you go.

Will I get a certificate after the training?

You receive a course completion record from Invensis Learning after finishing the one-day programme. It confirms you have completed practical Kanban skills training in manufacturing and knowledge-work pull systems.

What will I be able to do after completing the course?

You will be able to explain push versus pull, design a manufacturing supermarket and size kanban loops, build a Kanban board with WIP limits and classes of service, measure lead time, cycle time and throughput, and read a Cumulative Flow Diagram.

Is this training recognised across Germany?

Kanban is a globally established method used widely across German manufacturing, automotive, logistics and IT. The practical skills are recognised by employers pursuing Lean flow and Industry 4.0, and apply the same way in Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart or Hamburg.

    Course Content

What topics does the Kanban Training cover?

The syllabus spans six areas: Kanban origins and pull production, manufacturing Kanban types and mechanics, kanban sizing and implementation, knowledge-work Kanban boards and WIP limits, flow metrics and the Cumulative Flow Diagram, and implementing and sustaining Kanban.

What is the difference between manufacturing and knowledge-work Kanban?

Manufacturing Kanban uses physical or electronic signals, supermarkets and container sizing to pull production just in time. Knowledge-work Kanban uses a board, WIP limits and flow metrics to manage software, IT and service work. The course teaches both.

Are there hands-on exercises in the course?

Yes. You practise push versus pull identification, kanban quantity calculation, pull-loop design for a production scenario, Kanban board design for a software or IT scenario, WIP-limit setting and Cumulative Flow Diagram interpretation.

    Does the course include Scrumban?

Yes. The implementation module covers Scrumban, which combines the Scrum cadence and ceremonies with Kanban visual workflow and WIP limits, so Agile teams can add flow-based execution to iteration-based planning.

How long is the Kanban Training?

The programme runs for one day, totalling eight hours, and can also be delivered as two half-day sessions. It covers all six modules with concept explanations, real-world examples and hands-on design exercises throughout.
