What do you need to be eligible for the Change Management certification? Here’s what:

Association of Change Management Professionals (ACMP) offers a Certified Change Management Professional (CCMP), which is a credential that is recognized throughout the world. It has been developed based on ACMP’s Standard for Change Management, which defines change management best practices. You can use the CCMP certification to demonstrate your investment in continual development while applying your experience successfully to respond to a variety of change management situations.

There are certain change management prerequisites that you must meet to take the CCMP examination. Read on to find out what these are:

Change Management Requirements

Before you become a CCMP, there are two categories of requirements you must meet:

Education and Experience:

  • A four-year college degree or an international equivalent and three years or 4200 hours of experience in change management.

  • Secondary education or any international equivalent and five years or 7000 hours of experience in change management.

Note: Your experience hours can be within any time frame. The three year and five-year indicators are for guidance purposes only.


You must complete at least 21 hours of instructor-based training in change management in the past seven years. You can opt for courses that are listed on the Qualified Education Provider (QEP) as aligned to the Standard for Change Management, or for non-QEP courses that qualify as well.

Any instructor-led classroom or online training that is in alignment with the Standard for Change Management can be used to meet the requirement for 21 hours of training. ACMP has a QEP program that helps you identify the qualifying courses.

CCMP is aimed at experienced change practitioners, irrespective of your designation. It is a suitable certification for anyone who applies change management best practices in their work and can include:

    • Change leaders, organizational change managers, and people involved in business process improvement or business transformation.
    • Project managers who ensure adoption and obtain benefits.
    • HR professionals who want to get a certification to demonstrate something more than HR skills.
    • Communication and training professionals who work with teams on big roll-outs.
    • Knowledge Management specialists who transform the way companies collaborate and make use of knowledge.
    • Professionals who have other well-known credentials in fields like project management, HR, change management, and continuous improvement who want to increase their market value.

After meeting the change management prerequisites, you should do the following when you take the actual exam:

    • Attempt three out of five essay questions, which have a 500-word limit each, to demonstrate your experience in change management.
    • Pass the exam by answering 150 multiple-choice questions that include scenario and knowledge-based questions aligned with the Standard for Change Management.
