What is the PgMP certification and who is it for?

The Program Management Professional (PgMP) is PMI's senior credential for professionals who manage multiple related projects as one programme to deliver strategic benefits. It is designed for experienced programme managers, PMP holders moving up, PMO leaders and business transformation leaders.

Is PMP required before PgMP?

No. PMP is not a mandatory prerequisite for PgMP. However, an active PMP satisfies the project management experience requirement across all three eligibility sets, so PMP holders only need to document their programme management experience.

Is the PgMP recognised in Beijing and internationally?

Yes. PgMP is a globally recognised PMI credential valued by employers across Beijing, China and worldwide, including technology and AI firms, banks, state-owned enterprises and consultancies that run large programmes.

How long is the PgMP certification valid?

PgMP is valid for three years. To maintain it, you earn 60 PDUs across the PMI Talent Triangle, with at least 8 PDUs in each area, within every three-year continuing certification requirements (CCR) cycle.

How much does PgMP training cost in Beijing?

PgMP training fees vary by format, so pricing is available on request. The fee typically covers PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams and application support. The training fee typically includes PMI-aligned courseware, practice questions, mock exams, downloadable templates, guidance on the application and panel review, learner support, and a course completion certificate with contact hours.

Is the PMI exam fee included in the training price?

No. PMI bills the PgMP exam fee separately in USD under regional pricing, and it is purchased through PMI.org. PMI membership reduces the exam fee and gives free access to The Standard for Program Management. Confirm current fees on the PMI store before applying.

What is the format of the PgMP exam?

The PgMP exam is a closed-book, multiple-choice examination based on the PgMP Examination Content Outline and The Standard for Program Management, Fourth Edition. It uses scenario-based questions across five performance domains and is delivered via Pearson VUE.

How many questions are on the PgMP exam and how long is it?

The PgMP exam has 170 questions and an allotted time of four hours (240 minutes). It is closed book and uses single-answer and multiple-answer multiple-choice formats.

What are the PgMP exam domains and their weights?

Five domains: Strategic Program Management (11%), Program Life Cycle Management (44%), Benefits Management (11%), Stakeholder Engagement (16%) and Governance (18%). The largest weighting sits with Program Life Cycle Management.

What is the passing score for the PgMP exam?

PMI uses a psychometrically determined passing score that is not published as a fixed number. Results are reported as pass or fail with domain-level feedback of Above Target, Target, Below Target or Needs Improvement, so aim for broad mastery across all five domains.

What is the PgMP panel review?

The panel review is a multi-rater assessment unique to the PgMP. A panel of programme management practitioners evaluates your documented experience and competency. It is mandatory in addition to the written exam, and both must be passed to earn the credential.

How many attempts do I get and where can I take the exam?

You get up to three attempts within a one-year eligibility window from application approval. You can sit the exam via Pearson VUE OnVUE online proctoring or at a Pearson VUE test centre in Beijing.

The training covers the five PgMP performance domains: Strategic Program Management, Program Life Cycle Management, Benefits Management, Stakeholder Engagement and Governance, plus guidance on the application, panel review and exam strategy.

Is the courseware aligned with the current PgMP standard?

Yes. The courseware is aligned to PMI's Standard for Program Management, 4th edition, and the current PgMP Examination Content Outline, so you study the same framework the exam is based on.

What learning resources and materials are provided?

You receive PMI-aligned courseware, references to the PgMP Examination Content Outline and Handbook, an overview of the Standard for Program Management, practice questions, templates and quizzes to support your preparation.

Are there practice questions and mock exams included?

Yes. The programme includes practice questions and full-length mock exams mapped to the five domains and the 170-question, four-hour format, helping you identify weak areas and build exam readiness.

Will I receive a certificate of completion after the training?

Yes. After meeting the course requirements you receive a course completion certificate along with the contact hours earned through the programme, which also count toward your professional development.

What are the eligibility requirements to earn PgMP?

Anyone can enrol in the training. To earn PgMP, PMI requires either a secondary diploma with 48 months of project experience (or a PMP) plus 84 months of programme experience, or a four-year degree with 48 months of project experience (or a PMP) plus 48 months of programme experience, all within the past 15 years, and a panel review.

How do I enrol in the PgMP course?
