What Is Design for Six Sigma?UntitledDesigning Quality in, Not Inspecting It Later

Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) is a structured, proactive approach to designing new products, services and processes so they meet customer requirements and reach Six Sigma quality levels from the very start, rather than fixing defects after launch. This one-day training introduces the DMADV roadmap, Define, Measure, Analyse, Design and Verify, alongside the core tools that build quality into a design from the ground up. Where DMAIC improves processes that already exist, DFSS designs them right the first time. You learn to capture the voice of the customer, translate needs into measurable critical-to-quality requirements, generate and select concepts with the Pugh matrix, reduce design risk with DFMEA, and verify a design before it reaches production. For engineers, R&D specialists and quality professionals across Romania's automotive, electronics and manufacturing base, DFSS skills are increasingly valued on new product introduction and design teams. Start building them with Invensis Learning.

Industry Forces Driving Demand for DFSS Skills in Romania

The EV and New Model Shift

Ford Otosan Craiova is ramping electric vehicles and battery assembly while Dacia refreshes its range. New designs at this pace need first-time quality, which is exactly what the DMADV roadmap delivers.

DFSS builds new product introduction capability

    Automotive Quality Mandates

IATF 16949 and APQP make Design FMEA, robust design and design verification requirements, not optional. Suppliers to global OEMs need engineers fluent in these DFSS tools.

DFSS builds DFMEA and robust design skills

    The Microelectronics Push

With EUR 420m of PNRR funding for Continental, Bosch and NXP, Romania is scaling semiconductor and electronics design, where getting quality right at the design stage is decisive for yield and reliability.

    DFSS builds design-stage quality capability

    Margin and Capital Pressure

With manufacturing output under pressure, the cost of late design changes and warranty claims hurts. DFSS moves spend upstream, where fixing a design costs a fraction of fixing a launched product.

    DFSS builds cost-of-quality prevention skills

    Expanding R&D Centres

Bosch Engineering Center Cluj and the Renault test centre at Titu are growing design and engineering teams that need a structured, repeatable methodology to develop reliable products quickly.

DFSS builds a repeatable design methodology

    A Gap in Design-Quality Talent

Romania has a deep pool of DMAIC and process-improvement practitioners but far fewer engineers trained in DFSS and DMADV, making design-quality skills a genuine differentiator.

DFSS makes design engineers stand out

Yes. Romania's automotive, electronics and manufacturing base is launching new products quickly, and employers increasingly value engineers who can design quality in from the start. DFSS skills map to well-paid roles such as product design engineer, R&D engineer and continuous improvement manager, and apply immediately on the job.

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes right the first time using the DMADV roadmap. This course covers DFSS and DMADV. Organisations typically use both: DMAIC to improve what exists and DFSS to design what is new.

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma concepts such as CTQ and variation is helpful but not required, as the course introduces all DFSS-specific tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles.

    General

What is Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)?

Design for Six Sigma is a structured, proactive methodology for designing new products, services and processes so they meet customer requirements and reach Six Sigma quality levels from the outset. It uses the DMADV roadmap (Define, Measure, Analyse, Design, Verify) and tools such as VOC, QFD, DFMEA and robust design.

Who should attend DFSS training in Romania?

The course suits product design and systems engineers, R&D professionals, new product development managers, quality engineers, manufacturing engineers involved in new product introduction, and Six Sigma practitioners who want to add DFSS and DMADV to their toolkit. It is relevant across automotive, electronics, aerospace and medical device employers.

Is DFSS training worth it for engineers in Romania?

Yes. Romania's automotive, electronics and manufacturing base is launching new products quickly, and employers increasingly value engineers who can design quality in from the start. DFSS skills map to well-paid roles such as product design engineer, R&D engineer and continuous improvement manager, and apply immediately on the job.

What is the difference between DFSS and DMAIC?

DMAIC improves existing processes that are underperforming, while DFSS designs new products, services and processes right the first time using the DMADV roadmap. This course covers DFSS and DMADV. Organisations typically use both: DMAIC to improve what exists and DFSS to design what is new.

Do I need prior Six Sigma knowledge to join?

No. There are no formal prerequisites. Familiarity with basic Six Sigma concepts such as CTQ and variation is helpful but not required, as the course introduces all DFSS-specific tools and the DMADV methodology from first principles.

    Pricing

How much does DFSS training cost in Romania?

Pricing varies by delivery format, whether you join a public online session or arrange corporate on-site training, and group size. Fees are available on request. Contact a learning advisor for current Romania pricing and a tailored quote.

What is included in the DFSS course fee?

The fee typically covers instructor-led training across the full DMADV toolkit, structured courseware, hands-on tool exercises using realistic design scenarios, learner support, and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning. Ask us for the full inclusions for your chosen format.

Do you offer group or corporate pricing for teams?

Yes. We offer corporate group training with customised schedules and volume-based pricing for R&D, quality and NPI teams. On-site delivery in Romania is available. Request a quote for your team and we will tailor a programme.

Are there any extra exam or certification fees?

No. This is a non-certification skills course with no examination, so there is no external exam or awarding-body fee to pay. You pay only the training fee for your chosen format.

    What payment options are available?

We accept major credit and debit cards and bank transfers, with instalment options on selected plans. Speak with a learning advisor to choose the option that suits you.

    Assessment

Is there an exam for DFSS training?

No. Design for Six Sigma is a non-certification course with no examination. Learning is reinforced through hands-on DFSS tool exercises, case study examples and team discussion during the programme.

Will I receive a certificate after the course?

Yes. You receive a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning once you complete the programme. This recognises your participation and the practical DFSS skills you have built; it is not an external certification.

How is learning assessed during the training?

There is no formal assessment. Instead, you apply DMADV tools such as VOC to CTQ flow-down, a QFD House of Quality, the Pugh matrix and a DFMEA to realistic design scenarios throughout the day, so you practise each tool as you learn it.

Does the course award a formal certification?

No formal certification or credential is awarded, as DFSS has no external awarding body or exam. You gain a practical, immediately applicable design methodology and a course completion certificate from Invensis Learning.

What will I be able to do after completing the course?

You will be able to apply the DMADV roadmap to a design project, capture and analyse voice of the customer, translate needs into CTQs, build a QFD House of Quality, run a Design FMEA, apply robust design thinking, and plan design verification and validation.

    Course Content

What topics does the DFSS course cover?

The course covers DFSS foundations and the DMADV roadmap, the Define phase (VOC, Kano, project charter), the Measure phase (CTQ flow-down and QFD), the Analyse phase (concept generation, Pugh matrix, DFMEA), the Design phase (robust design and DFMA) and the Verify phase (verification, validation, design scorecard and transfer).

Which DFSS tools will I practise?

You practise voice of the customer capture and the Kano model, CTQ flow-down, the QFD House of Quality, the Pugh concept selection matrix, Design FMEA with risk priority numbers, the parameter diagram and robust design thinking, and design verification planning.
